So now its time to take a page out of SFs book. What I saw from them is something the panthers really need to adopt. Running 3 Wide 1TE with a single back set. That would force the D to respect Smith, Gettis,LaFell, and Rosario while allowing Dwill and JStew to run out of the backfield and run screens.

I was really Impressed on how the 49ers used it and how similar our two teams are.

Yeah, it was kinda weird to see how similar the two teams are. Only big difference is that they seem to understand how to utilize a passing-TE. But then again, we beat em :bigear:

this would make sense, but copying a 1-5 team that we just beat is a bad thing, imo.

still, we do need to be moving towards that a whole lot more. the league is moving away from the FB and it's time we started doing that as well. nothing against the idea of using a FB...it's just not working as well as using multiple receivers to draw defenders away from the run game.

rosario was the 3rd most productive receiver ahead of smith yesterday.

i think we've found our passing TE.

you know how many targets jeff king and gary banidge got? nada. rosario had 5 and caught all of them.

Your right and all, Rosario did have a solid game, but I was talking more on a more consistent level. I would love to see him get 4-6 receptions a game or more depending on the situation.

We used to run out of 3 WR sets b/c it spaces the field and makes the defense second guess on passes. If I'm not mistaken, that's how DLo first busted out was through using passing formations b/c people on here argued how he should be starting over Foster b/c his YPC was so good.

As I've been screaming the last few days, I don't know what's the point of continuously running the power and off-tackle plays out of the offset I-form or the 1 WR sets. We keep doing it with no success. I think that was our most successful formation when DWill and Stewart really became the backs we know them to be, but the OL was much more capable of running those plays than this group.

I think we should go back to the 3 WR sets to have more success until the OL is capable of blowing the DL back like we did before. But, if the coaching staff hasn't made such a 'drastic' adjustment yet, I'm not holding my breath for them to do so...

Yea I agree. We are trying to fit a square peg in a round hole. IMO we were lucky to come out with a win yesterday. Every time we ran we were stuffed.

Yeah, I also keep saying with the OLs inability to hold up on these delayed-style running plays and counters that we need to abandon that altogether, regardless of the formation, and we need to run quick hitting runs - dives, isos, etc. and mix in draws out of passing formations.

Basically what the Lions did with Berry Sanders in the 90s.

    • Oh for those tired of the Mannings I have bad news, Peytons son Marshal already has college teams after him and he isn't even in HS until this fall...   I'd wager we have two Mannings in the NFL in 2030
    • Push em to the brink!!! Shut em down Freddie!
    • I tend to look at all of these guys and wonder how committed they are to doing special teams? It's a big deal when you're fighting for roster spots. And we need massive refreshes to all phases of the special teams game. And the idea that four or five of these players could see rotational use outside of special teams would be a win. This team has accumulated quite a bit of dead wood over the last five years and its time to take an axe to some of it. These new fellows have a shot to benefit from that if they can really push. That being said, wow that receivers room is crowded right now. I'm not sure if I was a vet player with more than 2 years experience other than Adam Thielen if I'd be too sure of my future here. Tet is guaranteed a spot, Coker earned his for sure and they aren't done with XL developing yet. That's only two to three spots left for the entire room. It's going to be very competitive and better for Bryce's future, too. Safety and linebacker are the opportunity spots here this season. There's room for the right guy and we may see a starter eventually from one of these UDFAs, either by merit or injury.
