Observer: Could one win lead to a streak for the Carolina Panthers?

For inspiration and those looking for something to believe in:

Whether the current Panthers can turn Sunday's 23-20 win against San Francisco - the first win after five straight losses to open the season - remains to be seen. It's far from a lock that they could even double up the wins this week at St. Louis.

But for a 1-5 team, there's an unusual optimism about this crowd, a lightness that comes from the belief that they're better than their record, and ready to make a run.

....

Asked Monday about Fox's strategies for dealing with the downturns in seasons, Anderson said the veteran coach has done a good job of keeping the team "focused on what the goal is."

And that is?

"The goal is hopefully to play more than 16 games," Anderson said with a straight face. "That's the goal every year, to have a chance to go to the playoffs and make a run at the championship."

Fun fact: What do the 1992 Chargers, the only team in history to make the playoffs after starting 0-4 and the Carolina Panthers have in common?

Answer: John Fox.

He was an assistant coach for the Chargers in 1992.

Fun Fact: The Panthers started 0-5. No 0-5 team has ever made the playoffs.

:(

Sure its fun to think about, but the realism in me says other wise.

True but what person, group, club, team, country or organization has ever achieved anything great, good or bad, by being realistic?

It wouldn't be called great. Winners aren't realistic. They're dreamers. And this team has a roster full of them. Guys that were born with the same unrealistic shot like everyone else of ever playing, pro football, in the NFL, but a dream to do so.

We BARELY pulled it out against a really bad San Fransisco team and we still can't run the ball. We could beat the Rams if we play well (that is depressing to say) but then we have the Saints, Bucs, and Ravens. So, realistically we will probably be 2-8 heading into the Cleveland game. That is only assuming we can capitalize on some confidence and go out and beat St. Louis.

The bottom line is that looking at the remainder of the schedule we are probably a 4-12 team with possible wins against either the Bucs, Browns, Cardinals and Seahawks. But I don't think we beat all of them. It'd be nice to get 3-4 but thats about as good as I'd expect from this team.

Looking at the remainder of the schedule this is how it breaks down with NFL math and our 3 point win over the 49ers okay?

Rams (W) Rams lost to the Raiders who lost to the 49ers who we just beat

Saints (T) Tie because we both beat the 49ers by 3

Bucs (W) Win because we only lost to the Saints by 2 and they lost by 25 and we don't get swept in the division

Ravens (W) Ravens lost to the Bengals who lost to the Bucs who we just beat the prior week

Browns (W) Browns lost to the Ravens who we just beat

Seahawks (W) They lost to the Broncos who got demolished by the Raiders who got beat by the 49ers that we just beat.

Falcons (W) Win by 1 because they only beat the 49ers by 2

Cardinals (W) They only beat the Raiders by 1 and the 49ers beat the Raiders by 8 and we beat the 49ers by 3 so we win by 10

Steelers (L) They are good

Falcons (W) They are resting their starters

The way it adds up 9-6-1 and WC spot

wow. good luck with that. some major stretches there but if it makes you feel better about the season go ahead.

Stretches? You've got to be joking! We only beat the 49ers by 3 and that has obviously determined the rest of our season. No need to watch anymore.

It's not like this type of logic has ever been wrong before.

Has it?
