Source: LB Williams headed to IR

My first thought as well.

Otah doesn't need a roster spot. He wasn't put on PUP.

(probably should have been, but wasn't)

thanks Mr. Scot! Good catch. He's been missing so long I convinced myself he was on the PUP lol.

Not an opening for anybody...Panthers got waxed in that trade. Williams didn't do anything in Carolina and his run here is probably over.

I just asked Gantt if it was an opening for a PUP guy = TD, I assume... And he said he's not so sure that's what this is...

Yes, but not sure that's what this is. RT @Proudiddy Do we have to drop someone off the 53 to activate a PUP guy? 16 minutes ago via web

Are they activating him? At this point, the LB's are the strongest unit on the team...why break them up?

You have to clarify what "activating" means here.

League rules only allow you to keep a player on PUP through week six. They get a temporary roster exemption (I forget how long, maybe two weeks) which essentially allows him to be the 54th player for that period. After that though, you have to either put him on IR or clear a spot for him by cutting someone else.

Now does that mean he'll be "activated" for games? Not necessarily. Depends on his health.

Knowing how good Davis can be though, I imagine if he's healthy enough, he'll be active.

The exemption is for weeks 6-9 and then a decision has to be made IIRC.

According to Gantt, we worked out two LBs today as well but he doesn't know if it's related...

Abdul Hodge and Stanford Keglar.

Honestly, this Keglar guy hasn't done much in the Pros and may just be a ST guy, but his workout at the combine was amazing:

Stanford Keglar raised his stock by leaps and bounds at the NFL Combine. Keglar scored toward the top of every event in Indianapolis. He ran a 4.58 40 yard dash and finished the 20 yard shuttle in just 3.98 seconds. Keglar also hoisted 29 reps on the bench press. Keglar is a bigger 4-3 outside linebacker, but showed he has the speed to play at the NFL level. Keglar was a late fifth or sixth round pick before the Combine, but now could go as early as the end of round four. Stanford Keglar is yet another Purdue University prospect who continues to look better every time he steps on the field. Keglar improved his impressive combine 40 time by running a 4.55 40 yard dash. He also registered a 39 inch vertical leap. Keglar has solidified himself as a late fourth or early fifth rounder.

Wow, I wouldn't mind picking him up, although I don't know why we need another LB?

Davis might not be fully healthy.

The team often works out prospective players on Tuesdays. they rarely get signed unless there's a need. Could be potential practice squadders.

Agreed.

Hopefully he's back this season because when he's healthy, he's a force. We saw that last year. But all I'd expect is that they rotate the backers a little more. Maybe Beason moves back to the middle for a few plays and Davis takes over Beason's WLB spot. I think the group is playing too strong, though, to justify benching either Connor or Anderson. Especially since benching Connor would require Beason moving back to the middle when he's been working the outside all season.

Yeah, I know a lot of the workouts we have go unreported b/c they're just that - workouts.

But, you may be right. I was familiar with Hodge and I thought he was going to be a pretty good player coming out of college, but he hasn't been. Keglar's measurables are impressive but both guys have been through 2 teams apiece already, so they may just be PS guys...
