Edwards to be active next week...?

I wasn't even looking at your name because it's not important to me. I don't care what he did in college because when you come from that type of offense you don't have the background skills needed to be successful in the NFL. Moore and Clausen came from pro style offenses in college and you've seen how they struggled.

I don't care if he is quick, everyone is quick in the NFL. The spread offense is based on having better athletes than your opponents and getting them the ball quickly in space. That doesn't happen in the NFL like it does in FCS football. The hashes are too close together and everyone runs sub 4.7 40s.

Can he take a snap under center? Has he seen half the defenses that will be thrown at him?

I'm done writing this post because I'm mad at myself for giving this much thought into why he won't play well when it shouldn't even cross my mind.

No, he is quick and elusive for the NFL. Read many times about certain reasons in practices to know that. His receivers and blockers should be better with the Panthers. Doesn't take a genius to know that if he has a great arm and is elusive that he has a good chance of doing well. Seen the three others play and know he is a better QB. Don't really care how much or little time you put into it, the truth is the truth.

Yeah the "local product" spread QB who put up insane numbers in college is always popular.

Of course. But sometimes with much justification.

I agree with that, but not at starting QB.

We do not have anyone else that can consistently move this team. Not going to get Brett Favre. Isn't the signing period over? What's the deal, do some people not want him to do well?

yeah, I agree. get him some "Mountaineer" in there and see what he can do for a change of pace, but yeaaah.

Put him in enough to know what you got. Don't just insert him for a few plays. Let's get serious about this.

the problem is this:

we know he is inferior to what we have at receiver.

we don't know if he is any better at QB, but the likelihood he is... well, it's small.

so if we draw up a huge game plan for him and he just isn't that good... bad stuff happens.

this is why you have to work him into the offense slowly... we'll see if it actually happens this week though.

No NFL coach, no matter how innovative, is going to "get serious" about starting a guy like Armanti at QB. He never even took a snap from under center while at ASU.

The best we can hope for is a change of pace in the offense and, at this point, some form of entertainment in a Panthers football game. I think he can do it, but let's not blow the role of Armanti Edwards in this offense out of proportion.

man there's no way he never took a snap from under center.

...is there?

I think he may have gone under center once in order to take a knee but I'm not sure.

I remember a game in 2008 when App had to start a drive at their own one, and he was still in the shotgun. Maybe it was because he could make reads or run draws quicker, but he never went under center.

Edwards getting a jersey next week is possible, but I wouldn't say it's a lock.

Bigger deal may be what happens with Thomas Davis. This week is the "crap or get off the pot" week in the NFL rules.

With Connor getting hurt, there's a possible reason to shift the alignment.

All dependent of course on whether Davis can actually play...

No, we don't know that he is inferior to what we have at receiver. Those receiver's have played probably 10 plus years at receiver. Knowing "Fox and Friends" they probably went with experience.

What is this "snap under center" junk. All sorts of NFL teams use the shotgun from center. Watched an NFL game tonight that they used it the whole game. So common that you probably didn't notice it. With the shotgun, 3 step or 5 step, you could also do a direct surprise snap to a running back. Of course you have a QB that can be a running back also with Armanti. Even in cases where he went under center, he could be back to pass much faster than what we have now.

Just like the commentators talked about today when televising Vick, they say that it gives you a better prospective back there. Can see receivers cuts and the whole field better.

I would love nothing more than for Edwards to come in and light it up... I just... don't think it'll happen.

Too much faith around here in his legs. We need a quarterback, not another running back. =\

After yesterday, I'm not so sure we have enough running backs on the roster.

    • That depends on where he's at because if you look at his first 3 seasons before he got sick he had 49 rec as a rookie followed by 56 and then his pro bowl season he had 103 rec. If he's somewhere between seasons 2 and 3 then that wouldn't be bad at all. We'll have to wait and see but from the few clips I've seen and the comments I've heard and read I wouldn't be surprised if that is the case. Personally, I'm really pulling for him and I think he's going to be the comeback player of the year.
    • More praise of Renfrow from Tim Weaver (formerly of USA Today's Panthers Wire, now SI.com), and also what I told some of you, my Huddle friends, from the start: keep it all in perspective, and don't conveniently---and perhaps unfairly, discount and label Renfrow as a JAG when it was a very debilitating illness affecting his play.    "It's understandable to be skeptical about Renfrow's abilities at this late point in his career. After all, he missed all of last season due to a bout of ulcerative colitis that also took a serious toll on his production in 2022 and 2023."   When Renfrow is healthy, he's an above average guy. Being 29 may hurt or help his chances depending upon perspective, but 29 for receivers generally means that there's still (sometimes plenty) gas in the tank. Renfrow also obviously has plenty of motivation and has come with his game face.   "Then agan, seeing is believing and by all accounts Renfrow has been very impressive since joining the Panthers a few months ago... Where Renfrow will fit in Carolina's new-look receiver corps remains to be seen, but at this rate it's going to be hard to exclude him from the initial 53-man roster." https://www.si.com/nfl/panthers/hunter-renfrow-sick-route-panthers-training-camp Read the room, ladies and gentlemen. And don't get it twisted; Renfrow isn't the most talented receiver on the team, but we have seen his ceiling, when healthy, in a Raiders offense that wasn't necessary replete with talent. Consider what he can do, especially in the slot, in a Panthers offense primed with young talent (no pun intended). From sick to "sick routes," eh?
