Clausen actually looked like a pro QB today

top dawg

Labeled as someone who ignores what is in front of them and passes off their hatred of a player because of where he came from as dislike for how they play? No, he's not biased.

In front of me? A QB who completes 50% of his passes for 6 YPA and throws a TD every 140 pass attempts (and counting). Yeah, I'm really dumb for not believing this guy is the savior.

He got his 100 yard rusher.

He got the turnovers.

He got the field position.

He got the ST plays (good punt return & Bad punt by them)

He got the L.

You can't ask for anything else to go right in a game for you. Next we are going to need a 200 yard rusher and a shutout to win.

maybe where not on the same page here. are you talking about passing plays that net 10-20 yards or passes that are in the air for 10-20 yards before the catch?

I was refering to slants and checkdowns, and yes clausen did do a good job throwing slants and finding people who were open (albeit checkdowns and half were dropped by the recievers).

Slants and checkdowns can net you the 10-20 yard pass plays quite often if the is any y.a.c

I am talking about throwing downfield. Throwing a smoke screen to Smitty and him getting 18 yards on the play isn't a downfield throw. Good QBs look downfield make throws 10-20 yards downfield. Talking about 40+ lobs like was being discussed comparing Brady has little meaning. Brady is good b/c of what he does 10-20 yards downfield.

Clausen hit one pass yesterday in that area.....I don't include the garbage time one. Checking down and the tossing an odd deep ball down the sideline when you get single coverage on your first read doesn't get it done in the NFL.

He got 31 points from the defense too. Also I never said he was the savior but he is better than you give him credit for.

He's not better than I give him credit for. What has he done to show that he's better than I give him credit for? 50% and 150ish yards (when they were actually playing defense) and I should think he's great?

I dont think Clausen instinctively ignores plays downfield, and when he threw it away out of bounds, I''ll take that over a sack or a forced interception anyday.

Our opinions differ on these areas and thats ok. These arguments explain why you like Matt Moore so much and dont care for Clausen. This is stance that you have taken and if I had to guess i'd say even if by some miracle Clausen starts lighting it up despite his circumstances, you'll still find a way to dismiss his better play simply because his Jersey does'nt say Moore on the back of it

nobody is telling you to believe he's a savior of anything. but it's not a question of MATT MOORE VERSUS JIMMY CLAUSEN anymore. We're just saying he showed some solid improvement and hope he continues it. He's a rookie on a bad team. of course he isn't going to look great! he still lead the offense to scores, just not enough. That falls on him, yes. He didn't make as many plays as I'm sure he'd have liked, but he did make some, which, frankly, is better than the none we've had most of this year.

The defense was absolutely abysmal yesterday. Despite the fact we actually ran time off the clock, the fact we had some nice drives, the fact we scored, had good field position, etc, they could NOT stop the bucs.

That is why we lost. Clausen didn't win us the game, but the defense sure as hell lost us it. Who knows what would have happened if the Bucs had been held to a couple more FGs instead of TDs...

I don't like Matt Moore so much. Moore at least attempts to go downfield. He isn't good at it.....but he at least attempts to have success.

Like I said, we have the Anderson/Quinn/Rip secenario playing out the exact same way in Carolina. Mirror image.

If Clausen stays in the pocket, looks downfield, and makes plays......I will praise it. He just looks to checkdown mainly and bails w/ slight pressure......that prevents any chance of success based on the offense we have installed.

Matt Moore had NOTHING to with this talk. He has nothing to do w/ Jimmy. Again, you were talking about Jimmy throwing comparable 40+ yard throws. Throwing downfield doesn't mean a bomb. Watch any good QB play......it isn't what he does throwing less than 10 yards or over 40 that makes him good.

Team isn't bad. Special teams isn't bad and neither is the defense. 2 out of 3 phases are fairly good. We have/had poor QB play making life hell for everyone. QB can effect OL, RB, and WR play.

defense didn't lose that game anymore than the offense did. Offense just doesn't score. Late in that game there were several chances before the Caddy run and the O did nothing. When you never do anything week after week and always ask for another defensive play......eventually you see what happened Sunday.
