Why it's a dumb move - Part Deux

Mr. Scot

so now BSP is Vinny T? Haha, yeah. A guy who has had such a storied career that at 31 he can still go on practice squads is nothing compared to Vinny T. Vinny was a leader and as much of a coach as he was a player. He was brought in to provide stability to a volatile position in hopes he could help a young quarterback corps.

He also didn't come in until after Carr struggled I believe.

So what has Pike done genius? Have you been in the film room or watched him practice? Have you ever seen St. Pierre play in your life? How do you know this is the wrong move, other than the fact that Fox is the one who made it and you don't like him?

Not trying to make a case for Delhomme. Just pointing out that there is a possibility that Fox actually knows more than a bunch of gomers on a message board who have never coached in their lives and don't attend the Panthers practice and meetings every day.

doesn't take more than a village idiot to figure out fox isn't doing a very good job

Pike has TAKEN SNAPS. IN A GAME. WITH PANTHER PLAYERS. AND MOVED THE BALL. Did he do it enormously well? No, but he deserved a chance to show he could do it at a point other than garbage time. He has been here from the start.

I've seen clips of BSP, and I'd love for him to do well, I think it just shows a disturbing lack of loyalty to his players that he is reaching out of organization to a player that has barely been here. This isn't week 4, and BSP isn't some seasoned veteran who has guided teams in many seasons past...

The way this O-Line has pass protected this year BSP is nothing more than a sacrificial lamb.

He will be a spectator by the 2nd quarter ( not really probably be out cold ) Pike plays some of the 2nd and 3rd before going out with something misplaced. And Armanti will run for his life the rest of the game. We'll be lucky if any of them live through this.

This whole year is a tragedy. Fox was kept 2 years too long

yeah, but you can look at 2007-today. Fox claiming to put the best option at QB on the field.....simply isn't what he has done year to year. He has clearly mishandled the QB situations in 2007, 2009 and now 2010.

I don't agree at all. In 2007 when Jake went down he put in Carr. How was he to know like in 2010 with Moore that the guy was going to suck so bad. So he brings in Vinny who promptly gets hurt and then when he can finally coach up Moore, puts him in.

In 2009 he used Jake because he felt he had no choice. And honestly nothing Moore did in 2009 showed he could do the job very well. He surprised then just like he disappointed this year.

In 2010 Moore is supposed to be the one and he self destructs plus I bet Fox had pressure to play Clausen. Both sucked so he either went with Pike or St Pierre which isn't much of a choice. Unless that is to put your 4th receiver in at quarterback. You can argue they should have brought in more quarterbacks but how much was that Fox and how much Hurney?? I don't know at this point. You could argue he should have left Moore in but I think pulling him for Clausen was someone else's decision.

Honestly it could be St Pierre is in there because there won't be controversy with Clausen when he is ready to play in a week or two. Or he is the best of a bad choice. I don't know.

or a whole lot of effort to be a perpetual sympathizer of mediocrity personified

See, you don't know what the hell you're talking about. I couldn't care less what happens to Fox after this season, but I do know damn well that he has a hell of a lot more information than you or I about his team and the results back me up. When Fox had the players he wanted, his teams could compete and never lost more than 9 games, which is something very few coaches can claim.

Let's just wait and see what St. Pierre does on the field. I seriously doubt he will be any worse than all world Tony Pike who has played 37 snaps. I doubt we will win either way, but to try to pin this all on the coach trying to pick the lesser of two evils will not be the sole reason, I can assure you.

Fox actually believes this is the right thing to do, which would lead you to question his judgment.

Mr Scot -

there is a third possibility that I think is very real. Maybe the decision came from higher up the chain of command. Maybe the team owner doesnt want any of his long term qb prospects turned into damaged goods ala D Carr. I think with our offensive offensive line play and our recent spate of injuries it is as good a guess as any other as to what is going on.

Maybe the saint is going to become the sacrificial lamb for this team.

Agree, the beat writers don't like Fox because he purposely gives them the "it is what it is" answers. If you've ever watched a Fox press conference it's very uncomfortable. Fox is nothing like that in person, he's very friendly and engaging, he doesn't like the media.

I think that the fact that Foxy only has a winning team 33% of the time may have more to do with it.

As I mentioned elsewhere, there are two possibilities here. One is the "mutiny and try to get fired" scenario, which would make you question his character. The other is that Fox actually believes this is the right thing to do, which would lead you to question his judgment. You can argue over which is worse, but neither is good.

In short, it doesn't really look like there are any winners here.

Yep. Whether any of this is true or not, it sure looks that way to most of the fans.
