He also told me that in 2008 we made the conference championship.

I stopped him in mid-sentence and told him that the game against Arizona was in the divisional round.

He paused, and then continued to read from a script.

Wow, this sounds bad... I can understand him having some notes, but reading from a script?

Yeah, it was almost uncomfortable.

After the conversation, to me, it doesn't sound like Jerry has much left in the tank. All the changes that took place, may very well have been in preparation for a potential sale.

I doubt it has anything to do with a sale, why would you strip a product down to nothing before you try to sell it?

Furthermore, why would JR be so passionate about the new CBA if he was planning to cash out?

I can believe JR didn't have much left in the tank, especially as a elderly man with a heart transplant... 7 pm to him is like 3 am to most of us.

He may be reading from a script so he doesn't say anything that would comprimise his position as the chairman of the owners committee negociating the CBA, the NFLPA is already accusing the owners of collusion, he has to be VERY careful what he says...

If the rest of the owners thought JR was ready to cash out or was losing it, I doubt they would have elected him to be the chairman of the committee that's negociating the new CBA.

It'd be pretty hard to find an owner

who is a former NFL player

who played with HoFers

and won a champtionship

who is also a self made multi-millionare

and who looks like Mr. Magoo.

JR is one a million and it will be sad to see him go if he were to sell the team. I'm sure he would pick a wonderful heir or heiress.

When JR does pass, I hope he doesn't make the same mistake Jack Kent Cooke did and leave the door open for a peice of trash like Dan Snyder to buy the team.

Cooke didn't leave the team to his son, because he wanted his son to have to work for it. His son did work for it but he was outbid by Snyder (and never given an opportunity to counter Snyder's bid - which suggests the fix was in) and now the Skins are doomed to an eternity of fail.

sell it? wtf would he sell it? he's not gonna last that long, so he doesn't need the money... he'd rather have the legacy and a lombardi.

anyone who thinks jerry richardson is anyone other than an extremely successful businessman and competitor who wants nothing more than a championship is seriously deluded.

I lived in DC at the time. All Cooke's son had to do was come up with half a billion dollars for the IRS to inherit the team. The money must be paid within 1 year from the date of death or interest begins to accrue. Cooke's son couldn't put the money together and that's why it went up for sale. Snyder was the high bidder.

That was not the case if you believe his son's account of what happened, but there are two sides to every story.

Bottom line: I would much rather see JR leave this team to his sons then put it up for the highest bidder on the open market.

    • I've been iffy on Canales till now but this season has put me in his corner. He certainly still has areas that need improvement, but I do believe he can be "the guy". Admittedly, what I had hoped for was a chance to see Canales with a different quarterback. That particular scenario now looks to be, at the very least, a few seasons away. Gotta say also that we'd be remiss to have an offseason discussion and not reference Dan Morgan and the front office. What I see from there (especially since the addition of Brandt Tilis) is starting to look pretty positive. Here's hoping...
    • He is certainly durable for his size I'll give him that. Whether or not he'll actually carve out a Doug Flutie kind of career remains to be seen. He has the benefit of playing in an era of the league that many former QB's would envy let's be honest. I think it really comes down to his desire to continue to overcome adversity and work on his craft. Whatever happens to conclude this season he will certainly be here next year and my hope is that he enters the upcoming offseason highly motivated to build on any progress he's made. The last thing we need is a repeat of the last 3 offseasons.
    • Yeah, don't ser how I missed that. Sorry, @Mr. Scot
