Clausen vs. Bradford

I am still of the opinion that we should be giving Clausen more time and that it would be very difficult for any QB to succeed on this current team.

However, the gulf between Bradford and him is pretty significant and someone mentioned the major difference is their confidence and poise. I am already starting to be concerned that Clausen is becoming gunshy. Remember in his first game when he drove us nicely and got picked off trying to get it to Smith? He came out and said he needs to take what is given and not force it. Sensible yes, but he is also not taking chances when our WRs have one on one matchups.

I have a feeling that many of these 'checkdowns' are in fact by design to try to control the pass rush teams inevitably get on us, however it's been a long while since I have seen him drive us down the field with prupose, instead focusing on getting each first down in 3 attempts.

One thing is for sure, it will suck to use our top pick on a QB in two consecutive years. It's not like we took a chance on a boom or bust guy, Clausen (and Luck if that is what happens) was supposed to be decent and low risk. He could well turn out to be pretty good, yet this season is forcing us to evaluate him well before we should be.

It's tough.

What you're saying, and showing, is that Bradford is NFL ready as a rookie, not that Pickles will never be a quality NFL QB. You can show a whole lot more QBs that took some time to develop than you can those who are ready on day one. It still holds that we should give Jimmy some slack and see how he develops before we throw him under the bus.

Deep Pass Percentage (Deep%) – The proportion of pass targets in which a receiver is greater than 15 yards beyond the line of scrimmage.

Bottom 5

Bradford 12.3%

Clausen 13.3%

Brady 14.6%

Romo 15.5%

Brees 15.6%

So what you are saying is that they both throw a lot of short passes? Got it.

The only problem is that Jimmy doesn't complete enough short passes for it to work while Sam does.

60% vs 50%

Unfortunately it's looking more and more like Clausen has 7 games to determine if our top pick is to be spent on a QB, so whilst you are completely correct, our situation is forcing a rushed analysis of him.

This is painfully simple. Even Jangler should be able to understand.

If Jimmy sucks it up this year, we will probably lose our last 5 games. We will have the #1 pick. We draft Luck. Jimmy grabs some pine.

If Jimmy pulls it together, we will beat Seattle and Arizona and possibly an Atlanta team resting their starters. We will draft AJ Green or Peterson or whomever...but not a QB.

Clausen's life is in his own hands.

Once again, Bradford is throwing a lot of short passes that are designed plays. Clausen is required to read long to short, which is harder to do and takes longer, and his short passes are mostly checkdowns.

Bradford is being put in a much better position to succeed. That's not to say that I'm completely sold on Clausen (nobody should have made up their minds one way or the other yet), but it's apples and oranges when you compare these two.

I think Bradford was handed a grilled chicken (not steak, but grilled chicken) on the plate, and Clausen was handed a whooper on a trash can lid.

No excuses for his play, but I don't even think Fox likes Clausen. the only reason hes starting is because his other options are Tony Pike (whom he apparently hates more), and Brian St. Pierre.

I do think the Panthers surround cast is OK, not good but ok, they WILL be better next year. the situation in St. Louis is *gulp* better at the moment. not to mention the sh*tty division.

I'm guessing the whooper is found at Booger Kong
