what game are you watching that has WRs that get open?

Carolina WRs have been open all year. Steve Smith made a point to emphasis that it isn't just him getting open but the rookie scrubs as well. Moore missed the wideopen guys and Clausen doesn't attempt to throw to them.

the only throw Clausen will make outside of a checkdown is a sideline throw on his first read. Clausen kills the routes the majority of the time b/c he scrambles instead of doing the basic function of stepping up and allowing the OT to push the DE past him.

I defend Clausen to a certain degree. I don't think it's just a matter of him being a bad QB. Moore couldn't get anything going either. The problems are much deeper than just QB work. The routes are predictable and boring. The WR's are young and Smitty is getting near the end. DW and JS have been injured and the O-line has been pathetic at getting the run game going. It's a stew of many bad things.

Remember that many teams passed on Aaron Rodgers as well. How many teams passed on Brady? QB's can be guessing games.

I'd much rather pass judgment on Clausen with another year under his belt and a better OC/HC and WR's. I'd much rather pass judgment on him if he had the run attack we had last year and still didn't produce wins.

    • And that makes you right.
    • Mel Kiper said he would retire if Jimmy Clausen wasn't a successful NFL starter too. Just because the experts make a claim doesnt mean it's true either.  Bryce may be a serviceable QB for someone. Serviceable QBs don't bring you a perennial winner or lead you to the playoffs over and over. Serviceable QBs also dont get 50m plus per year deals which is what a Bryce extension would look like.  The stats show he hasn't been even a serviceable QB in the 3 years he's been here. The eye test shows he hasn't put together 2 franchise QB salary games back to back in 3 years.  Complain all you want about people being negative, but people pointing out that Bryce is held to a different standard than anyone else on the team isn't complaining. It's stating the obvious.
    • We have big bodied WRs and 3 TEs who all have potential and each bring something different to the table. I never saw the need to go out there and try and find a new starting TE.  While it's nice to have a guy like McBride, Bowers, etc, I think a team's better use of the cap is by having TEs on rookie contracts or cheap vets, not having to pay elite TE money.
