XM Tuner

I have an 08 Tundra and was reading through my owners manual last night. Apparently I have the ability to control the XM on the factory installed radio but it said that I needed an XM tuner in order to be able to receive XM Radio. What exactly is a tuner? Anyone know where I can get one at a reasonable price?

I was thinking about doing the same thing for my wifes lexus is250. unless u have an antenna u need an antenna, a receiver and a fit kit I think. That just means it is satellite radio ready but u need the receiver, and what I just mentioned installed to have it work.

you pay a hefty price for the ability to control it through your head unit... I see one that looks like it's $255... plus whatever it'll cost you to install it.

At that price, you have to ask yourself, is it worth it to go with the integrated approach?

ya 235 is what its looking like for me. its an easy install for my wifes car tho so I would do it myself. Lol lexus said they would charge 700 bucks total haha

You can get the one that doesn't integrate for like $50 or so and do it that way.

Satellite radio is the single greatest thing I have ever put in a vehicle that wasn't made entirely from dinosaurs.

Just get HD radio. Cheap equipment, lots of channels, completely free.

Plus, I hate the way XM/Sirius repeat the same 20-something-song playlists over and over again.

I believe that there is some new deal that you plug into power and it broadcasts the xm to a fm channel. I saw it at Best Buy the other day but I don't remember what it was called.

Pandora radio on your smart phone, plug it in to the input on your radio. Free.

I haven't listened to satellite radio in a few years, but at my previous job 2 years ago we had sirius and the channels would play 20-25 song (3-4 hour) playlists and cycle the for 24-36 hours. Trust me, I heard Jason Mraz's (I think) "I'm yours" about 50 times in a 2 week period.

I guess it's like that if you listen to the top 40's channels, but isn't that essential all top 40's channels are?
