Clausen will develop into a fine qb next season.

Despite my avatar, I'm not a Clausen fan boy, and have ripped on him quite a few times. But....

With a new OC, a new QB Coach, I think Clausen has a pretty good chance at success.

I know, I know, "when he had time in the pocket, he was horrible.". It was apparent he didn't trust his Oline, they sucked ass at protecting the passer early on in the season and in spurts even in the later games. Can you blame a rookie that took the kind of abuse he took for being a little antsy, feeling pressure where there was no pressure?

Can you really say the Panthers did everything in their power to help him succeed? Was Rip a good qb coach? Was Davidson a decent OC? Did you feel they tried to call plays to fit his strengths? It seemed to me no thought really went into it, that they were just doing the same generic plays they'd do with anyone back there.

I look at the Rams and see a team that changed their play style for their rookie qb. They gave Bradford a ton of rookie friendly plays. That franchise gave him confidence in knowing he was "their guy".

I'm not ready to write Clausen off yet. Hopefully, neither are the big wigs in charge.

What if after three games he still looks like the worst QB in the league? LOL wait till 2012?

What about his weak arm?

What about his fuged up delivery?

What about his tendency to throw the ball about 4 feet from the ground?

What about his tendency to wet himself and run screaming when within 10 feet of a defensive player?

By "fine".. I mean, he'll develop his skill set. How his stats will compare with other Qbs will depend solely on who our new OC is and what kind of plays are being called.

He'll still have mistakes, he's a young qb, they all make mistakes.

I'd give him a clean slate, if for no other reason, than he had Rip coaching him on to be a qb.

Mistakes I'd be fine with. That guy hasn't shown enough to be considered a career backup.

    • Yeah well I was agaisnt Hurney coming back and then helping hire Rhule but it happened anyways. Tepper has made it so bad and it's still ongoing currently.
    • Yeah, that "Me against the world" mentality can work....when you are right and know what you are doing. But if you don't know what you are doing and can't accept that you need to learn, that is an impossible hill to climb.
    • I can’t argue too hard with established track records. Just hope because it has happened before.   I think it takes massive and embarrassing failure. It isn’t hard to conceptualize the general truism that success in one field does not guarantee success in another. I have had to experience that in my the hard way before, dealing with a self made millionaire friend.  Getting them to understand that is very difficult. I had to part ways to escape it 30 years later, he still hasn’t learned. But he isn’t my problem anymore….  Tepper cannot be excised so easily.
