there has never been a CB taken first overall. are we saying that he is the ndamukong suh of CBs? that he could be the best CB to ever come out of college? thats what we would be doing here.

he's a reach...just like everyone else is.

And that's what you would have been doing with Luck but you had no problem with that. Peterson played against top notch competition too, unlike the guy you wanted....

DTs are rarely taken in the top 5 but two went in the top 3 last year, which had never happened before. Situations change and smart teams go where the talent is. I agree there's nobody there really worth a #1 overall as the high value positions like QB, DE, OT all look like huge reaches. Everything considered he's still the top guy on my board and less of a reach than anyone else. Green would probably be 2nd.

I wouldn't really have a problem with this pick. I like the highlights I've seen and he'd help the defense a lot (sliding Marshall back to nickle cb) but it does leave the offense largely unimproved. Sure we can get a lineman or two in later rounds and FA, and we could pick up one of the scrub FA QBs to marginally improve that spot, but we'd still have a poor offense.

I'm also torn because I wouldn't wanna reach on one of the other QBs and risk them being a bust, and then have a shot at Luck next year and pass on him because we spent a #1 on a QB this year...

shitty shitty shitty situation now :(

There's really no other choice. The only players with top 5 value in this draft are a DE, a DT, a WR, and a CB. Those are the only elite talents in the draft with Luck gone. You can say they're not worthy of a #1 pick all you want, but the fact of the matter is that somebody has to go #1 and any of these guys (Fairley, Bowers, Peterson, Green, and other DT's/DE's/CB's) are way more worth it and much more valuable to our franchise than Cam Newton or anyone else.

The best option for our franchise is to take a free agent QB just like we did with Delhomme at this point. If we suck again next season then we'll have the option to draft a QB next year. But now is not the time. None of these QB's are going to turn out to be great players. None of them will have the impact of these elite defensive players.

Luk wasn't a reach, playing competition has nothing to do with skillset and potential.

I would love to take him. Is he the best CB prospect ever? He can damn well be close. Heck, that's not event he question you should be asking, the only question is: is he the guy that can help us out the most? I honestly think the answer is yes!

I'm on board 100%. The only offensive player that has the talent to go #1 overall is Green, and to be honest we don't need another receiver. Smith is getting old but he's still good, and Lafell and Gettis are both good enough to start--they just need stable QB play and a better offensive system. Drafting another WR will just hold those two back.

Marshall is gone. Munnerlyn is good enough to be a decent starter, but if we get a legitimate shut down corner in the draft to keep Munnerlyn in the slot, our secondary will be ridiculous. Peterson is perhaps the BPA of the entire draft, would become Chris Gamble's successor AND is a dirty return man.

We could go Fairley, but I'd rather see us address the DT position in free agency. A couple strong veterans at DT and Peterson at CB would make our defense elite.

Bowers would be a pointless pick, IMO, regardless of how good he is. Charles Johnson is the real deal, and between Brown, Hardy and Brayton we have the other End spot covered.

Ryan Broyles will most likely be there in the middle of the 2nd (where we can easily move up for our 3rd and 4th) and should be a huge steal. Also adding a big playmaking TE like Rudolph that I mentioned would help a TON. Get our line healthy, vet QB, new coaches and scheme and this offense will look infinitely better.

No Mannings or Brady in the draft that I can see, or even close. Maybe we'll get Luck next year. It's a process.

Broyles is returning for his senior year

Maybe next year after we draft Luck, we can get Broyles in rd2

I don't know if you've seen Green play or seen his measurables. But he has league leader potential. Can not pass on him for a player like Patterson. Patterson could be very good. But Green could be great.
