Draft choices narrowed to 5?

Yes interviews will factor in. But dont expect them to put to much weight on the Combine numbers and performance. Game film tells more than one or two days of auditions.

And rightly so. We have had a few workout warriors that didn't pan out.

yeah true, honestly, the pick could be anything it ALL depends on who the coach and GM want, the coach may not want Clausen and may want him out. the coach MAY want to keep Clausen and get him a reciever like Green or he may want to keep the offense like it is and just sign a vet. QB to help Clausen and go defense, all depends on the coach/gm and what they want.

Gettis and LaFell showed some promise this year, And they were both rookies, so I don't see the need to spend the #1 pick on Green. Trade it and get more bang for you buck.

It isn't just Newton.

There's not a single QB in the pool worth taking with the #1 this year. Any QB that goes first overall needs to be a top flight, ready to start immediately, head and shoulders above the rest type player. The only guy that might have fit that description this year decided to stay in school.

My personal hope is that we trade down, but if we stay at #1, there's no quarterback that's worth it.

Oh I agree with that. I think it sucks because this has to be the first year in a long time there is no Two best prospects. It sucks we dont need a WR cause Green will be good but he is of no need. You cant convince me ether that Fairley,Bowers, or Peterson is ether. I just hope like you someone wants Green in a bad way.

Also to be fair Luck did look so swift with Oregon himself. He threw some picks and was taken out of his game big time.

I think the top four players right now have been established barring a surprise at the combine. If we look at our offense, I say no to a QB after seeig Newton, Mallet, and Locker. Sign a vet and see how Clausen does with a new

coach. Go with AJ Green at #1 even if we keep Smith and definitely if we trade him. Go for a guard later or sign a vet. If we look at the defense, then we sign Fairley and sign a good vet DT. If we can trade down for a top ten pick and a second round pick then go BPA.

they did, BUT if Green is here, then that could put Smith in the slot more and open the passing game up more.

Green may not be a need, but IF Clausen improves, imagine having to deal with Green, Smith and either LaFell or Gettis in a 3 reciever set

The Panthers scouting philosophy emphasizes game performance, so I honestly wouldn't expect the Combine to change anything.

Plus so many players are now getting Trained to answer the questions with the "canned answer", and are doing workouts JUST to increase their combine performance... really I think it may TAKE AWAY from players.. just because they become athletic for the workouts at the combine.... who knows. I think the Football IQ and interviews are the most important.

we found Kris Jenkins in the 3rd round of 02 or whatever year... I think we can find a good DT later in the draft... I say green. Were going to be players in FA this year. Veteran QB will help Clausen's game immensely. As will some a healthy OLine with some added FA depth...

It would be a trio of WR's to be scared of but if the O-line can't stop the pass rush, it won't matter who Clausen is throwing to. I would just like to see Smith getting more touches for him to make plays.

that's why i think the panthers should sign a good free agent to backup Otah or draft one.

Its hard for me to read some of the posts talking about FA's. JR won't spend big money on FA's. And most ,when they come to Carolina wind up being a bust.

Mark Fields

Jake Delhome

Ken lucas

Most of the Oline from the superbowl season

Brentson Buckner

Al wallace

Chris Harris

Stephen Davis

Ricky Proehl

Jermaine Wiggins

Wesley Walls

Marlon McCree

Is some of the FA player that have worked out. If you looked down any teams FA signing history you will see some hit and misses.

Thats revisionist history. JR has certainly been willing to spend big money on free agents in the past. And I think we will see some free agent signings once the contract talks are done. Might even see a free agent QB, or at least a trade.

Trade the #1 pick and draft one that could come in and start with gross and otah. And still have some more picks with the trade. Were on the same page.

i like the trade idea, BUT without Luck i think that will be easier said than done which is why i say best player on the board and in my view that's AJ Green. if a trade can happen though make it.

    • A winning record would be nice, but I still have us winning around the 6 to 8 game mark. Realistically we should beat the Jets and Saints, that gets us to 5 wins. After that, we have to face a lot of potential play off teams and our divisional opponents. I think we’ll win 1 or 2 of those games to take us to 6 or 7 wins, perhaps 8 wins if we can spring a further surprise.  Is that enough progress for head coach and QB? I’m not sure, it will depend on performances and output. That said, it’s nice to be back in a position where we are thinking about the play offs.
    • I would tend to agree about not falling into the trap and paying a below average QB, but sometimes situations can “force” a team to pay that QB. For example, if we play ourselves into a 9-8 like record, then what options will we have in the draft? Or do we avoid the draft and trade for or sign someone in free agency?  I’m not convinced by the 2026 QB draft class. There’s some intriguing prospects but no one that really screams “draft me”. I’m not sure we’ve got anyone really that stands out as a trade candidate or free agent signing. So although we might not want to commit a big money contract to Young, him playing well and showing progress might force the team’s hand.
    • Realistically we would be looking at no more than a mid round pick for Dowdle or Chuba. Are we really that desperate for a mid round pick? Not really. I would much prefer us utilise the two RBs in a 1-2 punch similar to how we used D-Will and Stewart. After all, Bryce is not Drew Brees. He won’t throw for 300+ yards and carry the team consistently as a passer. So having a strong running game with a 1-2 punch will be beneficial to him, and it will also be beneficial to the RBs because we can spell them and not overwork them.
