I'm happy with this hire....good deal money-wise and the team should be encouraged to play under another players coach with on field experience with a SB Champion. I just checked out the Bolts' message board, they are bummed out about losing him pretty much across the board. I got the feeling they would have liked to see him either take Norv's job or remain at DC.

It was nice having him in our back pocket incase AJ or Dean wanted to do some housecleaning.

Rivera's compensation will be 2.8 million a year. The average for the 32 coaches is 3.2 million. The average for a first time head coach is typically around 2 million. So his 2.8 compares favorably with other first timers.

Smith in Atlanta makes 3 million. Whisenhunt in Arizona makes 2 million.

Is 11 million over 4 years low for a first-time head coach on his first contract?

I was looking for NFL head coach pay info, but couldn't find much of anything.

Jim Harbaugh gets paid the same. Win and you get a hefty extention! It's a standard for first time HC

    • It's crazy with how much winning was going on when we had a little cool off period that we're still just a couple games out of 6th. Moussa is getting better every week and Coby is getting comfortable. Would be nice to get to 6 but I think this team is a lot more stacked than the last couple play ins. I can't remember the exact rules but if you're 7th seed and win the first game I think you automatically move on and don't have to play the second game?
    • I think it was a thing for sure. Panthers weren’t too many people’s first choice. Or 5th choice.  2022 and 2023… coaches fired mid season. Consecutive years. You want any of that?  He has definitely overseen a rehab of how the Panthers are perceived. Because we are a place that is seen as up and coming. And just the little thing of he accommodated Theilen so graciously, that gets noticed. It all adds up. Dan is doing a lot of things right, probably most things.  Needs a good draft.
    • K, I think that is dumb, but you do you. I didn't find anything online that made him out to be a dislikable person. I am certain the Panthers would have cared so much if they lost your fandom if they hired Sean Payton. But bet you would have come crawling back if Sean lead us to a Super Bowl victory or Golden leads UNC to a champion ship. It is easy to say you are gonna leave a team if the hire someone you dislike when the chips are down. But people like you tend to come crawling back once the team finds success.
