The Pro Clausen Thread....

Clausen won't be on the field next year to be "relieved of his duties"

Of course, this wont be the plan. However, a smart coaching staff/talent evaluation team will be able to tell if he just isn't getting any better. If so, I'd rather be a smart team and start over sooner rather than be the Raiders and wait 4 years to realize the guy isn't any good. In that case, I'd rather have someone who can step in and not be embarrassing.

TRD, your Clausen obsession is downright unhealthy. While you claim to hate him and say he sucks, why is it that no one on the Huddle posts more often about him than you? 200 posts, you're in here 15 times.

Explain to me, I'm curious: What is your background in football and what are your connections to Jimmy Clausen?

Clausen didn't have a chance last season. There was always somebody in his face.

BTW,I accidently rated this thread one star somehow, I have no idea how it happened and I can't change it. Sorry.

Sure he did. Clausen wasn't going to be judged by his W/L record. He currently isn't being judged by that.

The fact remains he had a defense, he had a very good ground game for most of his starts w/ a top tier WR. He had plenty of chances to show something....ANYTHING. He showed nothing. Plenty of QBs have been handicapped by John Fox and there has never been enough of an excuse before......and it isn't w/ Clausen.

Clausen was terrible.

I'm not obsessed with Clausen. I enjoy breaking down QBs and discussing QB play. I was in the Cam Newton thread a lot as well. Where you in there?

I talk about all QBs. You only talk about Jim.

My background is none of your business. If you really wanted you could piece it together on your own but that would require some thinking. I've been around football a long time, that's all you need to know. I've stated many times I'm from SoCal where both Moore and Clausen are big names.

Edit:

I'm also healthier than you will ever be

We've pretty much shown that the O-line isn't bad.

As far as play calling I never have gotten anyone to explain how exactly the play calling hurt Clausen. Most people look at his dump offs and assume that was the play call when more often than not he didn't see the route down field.

There is some weight to the fact that he had rookie WRs.

In many ways Panthers style football is perfect for developing a QB. We are going to run the ball 2/3 of the time and you will only get 20-25 attempts a game. Many opponents are going to load the box and dare you to throw it into 1-1 coverage. Like in the Arizona game where he had single coverage on practically every play.

I still don't see the potential

Who the hell says that?? So you were Oaks' dietitian? How can you ever say you're healthier than someone you've never seen?

Internet tough...health guy alert?

Edit...I have discussed Newton and Gabbert ad nauseum. So the "only talk about Jim" = false.

Both ;)

You said I was unhealthy, I said I'm healthier than you'll ever be.

So your point that I only talk about Clausen is also false? So we can agree that when I talk about any QB not named Moore or Clausen you don't care but when it's about those two, the only two on our roster, you get emotional and I'm obsessed. Got it.

Clearly mine is an exaggeration. And Jimmy will have my support for as long as he plays for us. I just don't think he has what it takes, and that is based on more than just one year in the NFL. Obviously I don't know that he is a bust. I'm just pretty certain.

Same here. Clausen will improve but I believe he will be a bust ultimately.

You blow up Clausen threads. Fact.

Moore is not on the roster right now, also fact.

Pike is on the roster. Fact.

I cut down to 6 meals a day and can now stand on a treadmill and it not break. Also fact. :biggrinjester:

    • This play was never designed to go to either DJ or Odunze. The primary read is Burden who is stymied early, with the outlet being Kmet if Caleb doesn't like the option for Burden. Given the situation it's pretty obvious the simple play is to take the free yards with Kmet, or if you want to be aggressive just wait a beat longer for Burden to uncover on his double move. If Moore was ever going to be a viable target in this play then Caleb should have started out reading Odunze to hold the safety in the middle and then coming to Moore, but because he started the snap staring down the right and then came back to the middle late it made it where the safety's leverage remained to the outside of Moore, so he would never have imagined that pass actually being thrown to him in that situation. Realistically DJ's best option in that context is to just occupy the safety to leave a hole open for Caleb to get it to Burden, which is probably why he throttles down vs carrying the safety across.
    • Even with Sonny Styles still on the board I thought it's a no brainer to address the Oline after Icky's injury.  And how can you pass up Fano at 19 given our situation. Then the rest of the draft just kind of made sense with maybe the exception of Klubnik.  But if Canales can fix him and Young goes down. . .I think it's a solid pick. What do you think of this draft?
