The Pro Clausen Thread....

Why not? Let the kid compete for his job - I do not believe there is a QB on the roster currently who will do better because of how awful our QB roster is.

You don't think he deserves a shot to keep his job given the current state of our QB roster? Really?

*edit for clarification*

I don't think he's going to be good - I'm really not confident he can hold onto the starting job for a full season. But I do think he absolutely deserves the chance to keep his job under an offensive system that doesn't have it's head up it's proverbial ass.

No one deserves anything in the NFL, you have to earn it. And Moore is by far a better QB than Clausen, 7 days a week and twice on Sundays. He doesn't "deserve" to get another shot does he? He proved more than Clausen has but no one is taking up his case.

If he gets a shot to be the starter during camp it will be because he earned it, not deserved it.

I dont pin last season on Clausen one bit. The entire offense was bad. Smitty dropped at least 10 balls, the oline sucked for the majority of the time, the run game wasnt as good as anticipated. This didnt just happen after Clausen took over either. I can understand drafting Luck if he were there, but it doesnt look like he is going to be. We are worse off at other positions than the QB.

Its not his skills that should worry us, but being able to command the huddle. That is where I question his ability.

The problem I have with Jimmy is the fact that he gets 10% of his balls batted down at the line, and it looks like he has a hard time seeing the field. He is barely 6'2". Other than that, I dont mind him for another year as long as our line gets less porous than sponge bob square pants.

I remember NFLN analyzing his play before the Steelers game. They said he had a skill set similar to Mark Sanchez. Mark Sanchez isn't Tom Brady or Peyton Manning but he isn't bad either. In the NFLN analysis, they said he was like a lot of typical rookies. He made some good plays and some bad plays. Eliminating the bad plays is what needs to happen to achieve consistency in his play which is what Rivera and his staff need to do.

He's the best option we have right now considering Andrew Luck will not be in the draft. I'm sure we'll bring in a veteran backup to give him some competition but I think you'll see him improve this season. We're not going to find an upgrade in free agency and we aren't going to draft a QB 1st so you stick with Clausen at this time and develop him into a good QB which I think he will be. I'm fairly confident he will be as good as Mark Sanchez but Mark Sanchez isn't an Elite QB in the NFL.

What I have against Clausen is that he is totally inept at QB. Cannot throw most of the time very well. Get's caught up in the play and cannot make an intelligent decision. Cannot avoid many tacklers. Cannot even take the snap or hand off well many times. Other than being someone that should never have been in the NFL, I don't see many problems with him.

You guys know we led the league for a 5 week time span in rushing and Clausen's numbers didn't change one bit. That's almost impossible. Our offense wasn't as bad as people make it out to be. Clausen was worse than people make him out to be.

We led the league in rushing for over a month and nothing changed. Do you not understand that?

    • I still think another QB is brought in Day 3. Grier is camp body level at this point.
    • We’re in a pickle. My best hope is we protect him and can run the ball vs most Ds and the WRs are healthy so he has every chance to not look like what he looked like in too many games last year.
    • I'm really not stressing about upgrading from Bryce. I'm frustrated with our inability (or refusal) to recognize overall bad QB performance and failure to seriously address the issue. QB is the most impactful position on the field, and we're not only settling for what we've been given to this point, but we've rewarded it with a fully guaranteed 5th year extension for a player that's never played 2 NFL franchise QB quality games back to back in 3 seasons. I can't understand how that's ok from a coach's or GM's viewpoint. Successful franchises don't do things like this. It just doesn't make sense.  We do not have a top half of the league QB right now. Since we don't have that player, we should be looking for him. Pickett isn't it. Grier isn't it. Bryce hasn't proven he is yet. Until you have that sure fire franchise QB, you keep looking. You're not consistently making the playoffs, a deep run, or a SB appearance without one.  What's the worst that could happen? We end up with 2 potential number 1 QBs? How horrible.
