Well we have had 4 qbs go into camp before ( i know i know new regime ) so i say even if we pick up a vet or draft one ( which i hope we don't) pike has a chance to stay on the roster.....if he can show something, but he's going to have to shine and not just look average. But yea maybe the new oc and the tbd qb coach can pull something out of him too. And i agree he has the right "stuff" to play but its just how it puts it together when he's given then shot.

Not even close. LeFors was a higher pick but not nearly the talent Pike has. I think Pike was a steal and if he can learn the 3 Drop 5 Drop and 7 Step Drops I think he has the tools to become an NFL caliber QB.

Time and Opportunity is what he needs the most.

LeFors had a lot of potential as well. I don't know that you could say that one was more talented than the other, they were very different QBs. And I agree with you that given the time and opportunity, Pike could develop into a very good QB. I just don't know that it will happen with us.

Not much has been said one way or another on this guy. Let's here your take on Pike. Was he a wasted pick? He has the size, arm strength and other intangibles. Now that he has had a year to learn to take snap from under center can he be considered a dark horse to stay with this team in 2011?

he has a noodle for an arm, and that's probably being generous.

Strengths:

Good height; can comfortably see over line

Very quick decision-maker

Great football intelligence

Nice touch on the football; clean spiral

Has an adequate sixth sense for pass rush

Takes what the defense gives him; doesn't force throws

Solid accuracy down the field

Absolutely outstanding timing; throws ball before receiver even gets into break

Good character

Weaknesses:

Lacks some bulk in his body frame

Extremely weak arm strength

Lacks agility and athleticism; can't evade a pass rush

Somewhat of a statue in the pocket

Floats deep ball a little too much

Not a very good passer on the run

Throws difficult routes - but with unimpressive velocity/talent

Highly limited skill set

Competitiveness hasn't been tested yet

Older than the average prospect (will be a 24-year-old rookie)

Summary: Pike projects strictly as a career backup in the NFL. He simply doesn't possess even an average arm to be a starter. Pike can be somewhat reliable since he makes great decisions and is highly intelligent, but he lacks a lot of talent, and you can't coach talent. I project Pike to come off the board between the third and fifth rounds.

Player Comparison: Todd Collins. Collins has a weak arm, but is an extremely smart quarterback and a reliable backup.

Maybe a decent QB coach can help with the arm strength... IDK

From the source quoted earlier in this conversation, Walter Football. Goes on to say that with Clausen that we now have a franchaise QB, etc.

So much for all the talk of Clausen being a rookie and not knowing anything. Just shows what the "experts" know about anything.

I believe Pike is much better as a back up QB than Clausen. Because of Fox's insistence in using Clausen, Pike is still almost an unknown quantity.

Still very very good, no doubt. Louis is small, no 2 ways about it. He is likely a sub package lb in nickel packages or specialized WLB. Be fine ST gunner to start for sure. 6 foot flat and 220lb is pushing it for a starting LB. At 10 to 20lbs less than the other LBs he'd better be closer to the top in most timed drills. He's gonna be challenged when some of the wrs in the class can matchup bigger stronger faster, much less TE in the run game.  Yeah instinct matter and he has them, but that size is a massive red flag compared to many of the other LBS in this class.    Rodriguez is the LB that really climbed this week from a pure grit guy to great flash with athleticism people wrote off cause he was a QB at first at UVA. 18.4mph in the backpedal. Production the last 2 years were great. I'd be thrilled with him as the future mike.   Hill likely moved out of 51 and into the top 45 picks ( Ravens at 45 I can't imagine don't bite if he makes it there). Honestly Hill imo is a 1st rounder and I'd be ok with him as he fits the MLB we have missed the last few years. People would crow it's a reach but he's top 30 all-time I'm RAS for a LB at 9.9+ . Plus he was big time in big games when he was healthy. And that br a big check: meds.

      Miller, Melo, Coby, Moose, and Bridges all on the floor at the same time must be a nightmare for defenses lol. Switch one out for Kon and still a nightmare. Coby really does bring a true 6th man value and looks like he could start if Melo was out after only a few games of getting his feet wet.
