One thing i think A.J. Green fans don't realize

We don't have a tight end...

We literally have been playing for 8 years without a pass catching tight end.

So I think our minds have been warped into forgetting that tight ends catch passes.

We have two promising sophomores and smitty. The team wants to "build through the draft" so it makes sense to let them continue to grow. They put up with terrible QB play and they didn't do too bad. Seems like a big diss to them as well.

Rivera seems to want a tight end. Because John Fox had nothing to do with tight ends that is now a glaring need. Doesn't matter how much you think they were under utilized.

Rivera seems to also like #11 and #12 as he called them.

I think the offense would be more balanced having a legit TE rather than a logjam at WR.

I'm not saying A.J. Green isn't worth the #1 or other things like that. But it seems like people are forgetting the offense requires tight ends now.

OMGZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz, you AJ GREEN fans are BOTTLENECKING the john fox SYSTEM!!11111111!

this thread is pointless unless you were going to say we take a TE at #1..

if that was the case, we need to have a much tougher discussion on what is sanity and what that looks like...

So we should draft a TE no. 1 overall.

obviously!

also we don't have a logjam at WR just because we drafted 3 of them last draft. We have one aging vet, 2 guys who had okay seasons (good seasons for rookies), and 1 guy who has barely played a single snap.

that is not what I call a logjam... though it is a large amount of young talent, which is why I think if we go for WR, it may not be through the draft.

I think it was more...

"Top needs = Pass catcher, QB, DT, CB, OG, etc.

TE would help our passing game more than a WR.

Therefore, why spend the #1 on a WR when we can get a TE with a later pick and use the #1 pick to draft a top QB, DT, CB, OG, etc"

Get it?

They aren't taking AJ. Steve has a big pay check. They just burned 3 picks at reciever, and they have the connections to bring in V jacks if they wanted to for a similar contract to what Green will demand. The pick will be defense imo. I think its still early and one of the ends will emerge.

grab a TE in FA or later in the draft, however, I think we have talent in Rosario and Barnidge.. pick up a DT in FA, and later in the draft.. QB won't be found, unless our scouting department and coaches really fall in love with someone.. CB, that's more important than DT at #1, but there are other options other than #1.. OG, go FA..

we still need a legit threat at WR that pulls double teams.. right now, we don't have that.. and we aren't trading away our future to draft Green, get it? :)

    • Would Morgan or Beason have been HOFers' if injuries hadn't derailed their careers?  I was not a close watcher of the game when Morgan was in his prime but I thought Beason had a few seasons at close to Lukes' level of play.
    • Franchise QBs feast when things are rolling and the tide that raises boats when things are going sideways.  Bryce isn't that. He's a complimentary player, that's it.  When the defense and STs are on point, he plays loose and it shows.  When we are in a dog fight and things haven't gone our way, he struggles.  It's that simple. He's not a horrible QB, but he's not top tier either.  So the question begs, is this worthy of a second contract?  The answer should be no.  It definitely is my answer. Bryce will never be a QB that can produce wins largely on his arm.  That's a FRANCHISE QB, any other QB is simply a placeholder at the starter's position until that guy can be found.   At some point the excuses of lack of weapons will be a straw man.  Heck, it's nearly there now.  I mean if he doesn't look even better than last year will we blame it on the TE position?  'Well if Bryce only had a player like Kelce, Kittle or Gronk on this team...'  Are we really going to do that?
    • When I arrived at college, I was 18, not too much younger than some of these draft picks.  It was not a huge school, but there were guys on the team who were 21, 22, 23....playing ahead of me.  I was seventh on the depth chart.  Those guys have been through a few seasons, were stronger, more knowledgeable.  I was a better raw player than some of them, but those other factors matter.  As I grew stronger, more familiar with the playbook, and learned what it was like to play in college, I gradually improved and with that, I rose up the depth chart.  It took most of my freshman year for the light to come on.  Had the coach thrown me into the starting lineup day 1, I would have probably failed.    And that was college.  So I agree with you based on my experience on a much lower level.  Frankly, I think that is why so many kids drafted to fill huge gaps bust.  The teams are desperate.  Anyone who looks to fill vacancies in the starting lineup through the draft is desperate.  You draft depth to develop.  For this reason, I say, "Let Walker start for a while."  Maybe Brazzell can be our WR 4.  Throw Hunter into a rotation and ask him to do one or two things.  Freeling needs some strength and he needs to work on run blocking.
