With the 65th pick in the 2011 draft, the Panther select Kyle Rudolph, TE, ND

From a random mock draft found through walterfootball:

65. Carolina Panthers- TE Kyle Rudolph (Notre Dame)

John Fox hates talented tight ends because they killed his father and raped his mother. Good thing Fox is gone. Now they can actually get a talented tight end. Jimmy Clausen needs weapons to succeed and what better idea than to get him someone he worked with at Notre Dame.

Pretty funny stuff.

I tend to agree that perhap we should give our current stable of TE's a shot before using our 2nd pick on one. How do we know that just because we never threw them the ball that they couldn't have caught it if we had. It's pretty difficult for a TE to catch passes when they only play on special teams, or are primarily blockers whose only route is "run 3 yards and turn around". Not sure any TE in the league would have shined under our offense of the last few years. I think that pick could have a bigger impact used elsewhere.

I don't think Gary or King fit the mold of an every down TE. A good pass catching TE that is heavily involved in an offense is a young QB's best friend.

Barnidge is almost a pure pass catching end, no reason he can't be a weapon. He has the vertical speed, height, hands and can block so he's not a complete liability on blocking plays.

didn't Rivera say that pretty much isn't what he wants though? Barnidge is pretty much a WR and King a blocker. That doesn't mean they can do the job on occassion but Rivera wants an every down TE that stays in the game.

I don't disagree with you but if we are looking for a TE to come in and give immediate help to our young QB's we may be better off bringing in a proven veteran (if we can find one) who has shown the ability to do just that. There isn't really a 1st round, immediate impact type TE in this draft so thinking we get Rudolph and he comes in and solves our TE problems is a bit of a stretch, IMO.

i agree w/ that. I'd like the kid from Oak, Miller.

    • I can always count on yout to put things so delicately lol. I'm still not sold on the fact that Tepper will make them keep him if they don't see him as a long term answer.
    • holy poo... this thread inspired me to keep trying to guess passwords to various alts I've created over the years and I finally got in! I pretty much accepted my fate as a lurker for the last several months because I could not remember my password. I didn't realize that new users couldn't join either, that explains things. I have been around for years under several different monikers, through the good and bad. I too always find myself coming back here even with all of the new social media options for Panther fan engagement. It's simply nostalgic.   I do get extremely annoyed with the same 5-10 posters shitting on Bryce and complaining about everything. It's unfortunate that half of them are mods and that nobody new can join because now I pretty much just come on here and see Bryce / Panther slander. There is barely any positivity to be had. We all watch this team and hang on this forum for entertainment purposes only. We have no control or say in anything. I used to be such a crazy ass fan that would argue with strangers about Cam newton on the internet and at games. Now, as a father of 3, a business owner and someone with way gnarlier life problems - I like to watch football and talk about football as an escape. Not to bitch more. I really like the direction of the team and will root anyone in a Panthers jersey. I live down the street from the Rams practice facility, Matthew Stafford is currently coaching his daughters flag football team in the same program I coach my sons. I have two highly ranked Rams staff members sons on my team. The way we beat them and had them on the ropes in the playoffs has me feeling amazing, and you would think we have the next great thing in Bryce with the way they all speak of him. I'm gonna ride that high and be a delusional fan, I hope that huddle can stick around or get fixed and perhaps I will get back to posting more now that I can log in again. I will do my best to not get banned. Keep Pounding!
    • Well, if they know Tepper wants to keep Bryce there is an an implied safety net there in case he fails. A possibility that he will be empathetic and •maybe• not fire them.  If they go against that and bring in someone else and that fails they are in a much worse spot.  IMO.  And another factor may be that after all those years of instability and musical chairs pre Bryce there will likely be a feeling of security in knowing what they have.   Kind of like settling just to keep from going through the process all over again.     IOW I think he really needs to fug up bad to lose his job and change our course.
