Edwards or Clausen: Who has better chance?

top dawg

Recommended Posts

Man, I have had my fill of Jimmy-sucks threads, and even more so the Edwards-is-a-bust threads, so I decided to provide a different angle. If you were a betting fan, which one would you say has the best chance of actually succeeding at his position in the NFL.

I know why Clausen haters hate Pickles, but I am of the mind that he wasn't put in the best situation to succeed and, thus, should get another opportunity to actually prove that he can be an NFL QB. As for Edwards, it seems to me that it is kind of premature to be calling him a bust and convicting the FO for making a seemingly dumb move (particularly in retrospect), because he really hasn't been on the field for any appreciable amount of time. In other words, we don't know what he can do.

I know people seem to forget (and it may seem like a joke), but Clausen has been groomed since childhood to be a pro QB and made great strides his sophomore year at Notre Dame, and Edwards is extremely athletic, and had an outstanding collegiate career (albeit Division I), including helping to take down Michigan. It may be optimistic in light of the past season, but I still have a wait and see attitude on both. I am just wondering what the Huddle thinks about who has the better opportunity to be a success in the pros. Put the hate on the back burner for a moment, and consider the answer.

Edwards is a QB. It will be interesting to see him compete for the position he played all his career. Moreso, it will be interesting to see someone credible, reputable and respectable evaluate him... I'll live with whatever decision, i just don't want it tainted bias and favoritism....

    • Another thread where the Huddle melts down over a Bryce comment.  "Conversations" and "Bryce Young has been signed to a new long-term contract" are still far away from being the gospel.  For a fanbase that has watched two top-3 drafted QBs come here, and us move on, only to see them elevate their play elsewhere, I find it comical. Bryce is flawed but this org is damned if you do and damned if you don't with BY9.  Why would our GM and HC say anything other than supportive about their QB1. Yes, he's extended, but I truly do not think if he goes out and has a repeat of the previous seasons, that he is here beyond 2027. They're giving him every opportunity and surrounding him with a ridiculous amount of assets on both sides of the ball. If he continues to pitch 110 yd/ game and cough up the ball while everyone else is busting their ass, no way Dan keeps him beyond the extension.
    • Ooof, I was not a Proctor fan. I agree w/ a lot of smarter folks than me that he's more of a guard and think his weight fluctuation is going to be something to navigate. I liked Lomu a lot, but figured there would be more talented guys there at 19. I also wasn't big on bringing in a TE via the draft. If it's not a vet (Njoku) or a trade for Mayer or Kmet, I'd just as soon see what the youngsters have. No need cluttering the room with more of the same.
    • Sam Darnold & Bryce Young are two very different Qbs ..just saying the last 25 years approximately 2/3 of ALL  first round Qb's  in the NFL were or are bust.so for everyone who makes it like a Sam Darnold you have two that don't make it or are a bust
