Second Round Quarterbacks

I always take Brady out of those equations though. He's a fluke.

Again I agree, but, if you call him a fluke Aikman and Bradshaw are too be cause they had (arguably) the greatest O line and Greatest D to help them. (Brady has a squad that executes to perfection 97% of the time.)

That leaves Montana.

Of Course if you take the SB out of the equation, it leans heavily toward 1st round QBs, but I've noticed since the 80's that teams who wind up with that awesome QB tend to focus on getting him weapons in the draft and FA, neglecting Defense & maybe getting to the big dance here and there.

Likewise, teams who find that Defensive stud build a juggernaught D & hope to make it with an OK Offense.

The Balanced team seems to happen by luck. Yes they are built but still...

The rule changes of the last few years have significantly increased the importance of the quarterback spot. But there was no way anyone was going to seel that point to John Fox.

True, but in that case, it's reasonable to guess that as time goes on more of those later round QBs will be more effective.

I'm not saying that anyone should pin their hopes on 2nd round QB, I'm just saying that he shouldn't be discounted.

I honestly think is gonna be a rare draft where there are 1-2 sleeper QB's in the 4th-6th rounds. I'm thinking of names like McElroy, Dalton, Kaepernick, Ponder (Who I think is gonna drop pretty far down), & Devlin. Now some of these guys may go before the 4th......

but if we take Fairley/Green and pick up a first day (DT, RG) starter in the 3rd, why not take a stab at one of these guys if available? Plenty better than Pike. Also, with Clausen & a vet like Bulger/Volek, it would make for a good variety of quarterbacks here...then we see who emerges over time as a legit starter.
