What round exactly do you draft a top kicker/punter specialist?
seattle drafted kasay in the 4th.

most get picked in the 6th or 7th round but there have been a good few to get taken before that.

janikowski was taken in the first by oakland when they were actually a good team. in the last 20 years there have been a couple taken in the 2nd round that are still playing. i wouldn't suggest going that early, but i wouldn't have a problem using a comp pick in the 5th round or so.

Alex is going before the 4th. bank on it.

Stupid idea to have one player fill both roles of kicker and punter.

Atlanta tried this a few years ago with that kid named Koehner or something like that I think. Didn't work.

#1 problem with it is that the opposing team can take out one guy early in the game and ruin you. Don't even think for a minute that another team wouldn't do it in a heartbeat, especially if it was a play-off game or a win and your in type game.

I'm all for drafting the kid in the later rounds if he is there but to think that he could save us some roster spots because he can do everything is stupid.

Good points, but he could kickoff and kick long field goals while grooming himself to take over for Kasay. In addition, he can back up punter.

I agree on this guy, he is as good as it gets. I would think he can punt and KO, and continue to develop as a K. Kasay is probably on his way to retirement soon, so I would agree that Henery would be a smart pick. Not sure we have the luxury to take him were he will be taken though, given our many needs.

I could see us spending a 7th rounder on a guy like Henry. He would be a cheap replacement for Lloyd, could come in for Kasay or Baker if needed and perhaps could beat one of the other out. Still I don't think Kasay leaves unless he decides to retire which might happen soon. His leadership is worth a roster spot.

As folks have said, hard to spend 3 spots on kickers. Depends on whether you want to prepare for Kasay's retirement, or wait for it to happen and get the best guy you can at the time.

Kasay will be be here until he decides to retire. That said, there is more than one way to upgrade the kicking game. Baker has, by no means, been at the top of the heap in the punting game. If this kid can make a difference in that area of the game, while waiting in the wings to take over for Kasay to retire, we should grab him. He's been solid in every area of his game.

And as far as the issue of a do-it-all kicker, there hasn't been a guy yet who can do it all well. Judging by his stats, he may be the exception to the rule. Either way the guy can punt, at least as well as Baker. He can kick off as well, so why not take a flyer on him. If he proves he can KO and punt well enough, then we save one roster spot. If not, we blow a 4th-6th rounder. O well.

i see people saying this all the time, but this is lame. i really hope the FO doesn't feel like this. no way should we be held prisoner to some old kicker that doesn't know when to hang it up.

his time has come and gone. we don't owe him anything. it's time to upgrade and quit wasting an extra roster spot because we can't bear to cut an old guy loose. team has too many needs to sit around and be nice to some old kicker.

it's time to move on.

I wasn't saying I agree with it, but, form all accounts, that is how it will be. He's had a great career. He's won a lot of games for us, but his days are numbered. He has a chance at HOF numbers, and it looks like JR is gonna let him go after those. I want a guy who can do KOs and FGs, but if not a guy who can punt and do KOs is just fine by me.

    • It is a tough decision.  There is another factor.  Is he in game shape?  A tired Hunt is not better than an "in-shape" Corbett.  When coming off an injury, it is natural to want to protect the injured area, even if it is completely healed.  This can cause you to contort your body for no reason, lose fundamentals, and it could lead to other injuries.  For example, I had a knee in high school that required getting taped.  That made me aware of the knee (not used to tape on my knee) and I pulled my groin (favoring or dragging the leg with the tape).  The trainer explained the groin injury the way I do here--but scared money makes no money.  If he is cleared to play, he is cleared to play.  Watch him, rotate him in for a series, etc.  Specifically, I would want to watch the matchup--who is winning more--Corbett or Hunt?  How is the defense reacting (if at all) to Hunt being in?  Etc.
    • Shannon was sued for $50 million (settled out of court, I believe) for forcing sex on his girlfriend during a two-year relationship.  He denies it, but ESPN let him go last April.  Chad Johnson's wife filed a police report because he head-butted her in a car and was put on probation. I had to google it.  I watched the Ray Rice video and when you see it, you realize just how vile and cowardly abusing a woman really is.  But for the same point Aussie tried to make, these women are defenseless, and being phyiscally bigger and stronger does not validate your actions.   I can't even stand to watch Steve Smith.  I can't normalize this kind of behavior--again, I do not think R-P had that in mind when he posted this.  When the reason was exposed, we should realize that we are talking life (quality of) and death (in some cases) here.
    • I can respect the fact that we should not glorify or normalize men who have a history of beating women.  I do not think anyone was thinking of that when they posted this, but if head-butting your wife and unconsensual sex (rape) is something you cannot overlook, I agree with that.  I think they are both half-crazed attention hounds regardless of their pasts.
