Obviously you post intent on staying in character with your avatar. Great wisdom from the bottom of a beer or several.:D

Felt the same way voming out of the game too. Difference is I got over it. Obviously you are still holding on. Acceptance is the final step.

The bill will be in the mail.

All I know is...as long as he is our QB, we can forget about winning a Super Bowl.

So true. The only people who still believe in Delhomme post on this board. I live in Charlotte and Ive yet to run into anyone who thinks Delhomme has what it takes. Its no fun when the QB is the weak link of your team, and its common knowledge to all outside of the Panther fanbase that Jake IS the weak link of this team. WE NEED AN UPGRADE.

In other words, you don't have any support.

Gantt has been covering the team for years and has inside access that none of us have. He's been the best and most accurate writer on the Panthers beat for a long time. Add in that when he writes a story like this, it's about what he believes will happen based on evidence he's seen from the team itself, not what he thinks should happen based on his own football ideas.

You might want to think about that before you declare what he writes "dumber beyond belief".

And Jake has done nothing to show he is worthy of an extention. That's why I said what he wrote was dumber beyond belief. And why I chose option C.

I think Jake had the confidence and the workings to win a Super Bowl a few years ago, but I think that time has come and gone.

When we had our realistically best shot at winning the Super Bowl our RB's were all injured. That wasn't Jakes fault, but this is now, and not then.

Just because you WERE fine and WERE good enough doesn't mean you currently ARE.

For whatever reason the situation just hasn't worked out and we either have all our RB's injured, Jake injured, or Jake sucking ball sack.

Now we have what appears to be a loaded RB squad, and Jake isn't what he was.

Jake isn't Kurt Warner, so it is almost to the point of retardation to think he will somehow find what he never even had and become a super QB in his old age.

Maybe he comes back and plays good enough next year, a year not coming off surgery. Either way his time is running out, if not already out and we are trying to start our car with a dead battery.

I don't understand all the Jake hate, after 1 bad game.

I've never been a huge Jake fan, but I do know he is more than good enough to win a championship. It takes more than a decent/good QB to win a championship. It takes a supporting cast, and defense. Without those things, the QB won't matter dick. We have a pretty good supporting cast (offensively), we need a few defensive pieces, and a solid (consistent) performance this upcoming season ~ and we'll be more than fine. With any new QB, I'd venture to bet that it would take an even better defense to help. Either way, with Jake, or Moore, combined with our running game, and a defense, there is no reason to say we can't win a superbowl.

What has he done to warrant infallible love?

I don't understand why people don't understand that it wasn't just one game, but to each his own I guess.

We CAN win with Jake, but really is he going to be 50 and everyone still think he is the only man in the world who can QB for the Panthers?

The Panthers are capable of winning the Super Bowl, true, but I don't believe that Jake will be the QB when that happens.

Here's where people keep missing the point.

Whether or not the majority of fans on here think he's great or think he's awful doesn't matter, not even the slightest little bit.

His teammates have defended him. The coaches have said he's the starter. Ownership stands behind him. Nobody else has a vote. Campaign all you want to, but it's a waste. The election's over.

Honestly, looking at what's out there for alternatives, it's tough to make a convincing argument that this isn't the best path.

And don't bother with the Cassel or Anderson suggestions. We've been that route. Neither one is as good as the Delhomme haters have them hyped up to be.

(and other suggestions - like Colt Brennan or Michael Vick - sheesh)

I know the election is over, just like our SB chances.

That doesn't make it a good thing now does it?

John Fox defended Foster too, and plenty of other shitty players we kept way too long.

So yea the coaches defending him means about diddly poo as far as who is really capable or not.

Everyone who has played football before knows there is a lot of politics involved, and the best player doesn't always start or even play.

The players will have his back, for now, it seems people from the Panthers only talk poo about other players AFTER they leave.

I've never brought up Cassel or Anderson, so don't bother bringing up me bringing up those tools. Plus Delhomme isn't as good as the Delhomme lovers wish he was.

He isn't elite, he's never been elite, he's never going to be elite. That bothers a lot of people who think you must have a $$$$$$$$ 1st round guy, and/or an elite QB to win a SB. It has never bothered me because I have never felt that way. The game he had vs AZ sucked the big one, but I don't think it means much as far as future performance. If he can be the guy he has been most of his career and the defense doesn't improve, they aren't gonna win crap anyway. Even elite guys can't win a SB with a craptacular defense. Show me one QB who has won a SB when he had a defense that gives up around 30 ppg which is about how Carolina's defense was performing over the latter half of the season. I don't think you will find one.

Delhomme is nowhere near as bad as his critics think he is. And the notion that we have no shot at getting to the Super Bowl next year is ridiculous.

Do you seriously think we have a better option on the roster right now?

Can you name a better option available via free agency?

Are you prepared to gamble the season on a rookie quarterback who could be Matt Ryan or could be Ryan Leaf?

There are posters here who would answer yes to any or all of these questions, and as such would show why they're not working in pro football. Thankfully, none of them has any say in the matter.

Yep. Fans are like teenagers always want the fancy sports car. Meanwhile, "Dad" would rather have the used model that's not so fancy but more reliable.

"Dad" makes the decisions.

    • I think they are holding back to see what they have in the young guys, but I think it's a near certainty at some point they will bring someone else in. Right now (assuming we keep 5 CBs which is normal), the top 5 IMO are: 1) Jaycee Horn 2) Mike Jackson 3) Chau Smith-Wade 4) Shemar Bartholomew  5) Akayleb Evans   Obviously Jaycee is the alpha in that room and paid as such. Need him to stay healthy and continue to play at a Pro-Bowl level. Mike Jack did pretty well all things considered last year, and they gave him lower-level starter money. Fair deal for both sides.  Smith-Wade showed some promise as a slot CB. I think low-key he's a lock for the team. Different size and skill set than the other CBs. Shemar Bartholomew was the most sought after waiver claim last preseason. Was 5th CB most and inactive most of last year. Had a few defensive and ST snaps. Nothing of note good or bad but too small a sample size to make any judgment. Akayleb Evans was a 2022 4th Rounder for the Vikings. Has started 19 games (including Week 18 for the Panthers) in his career and played in 43. Was pretty good in 2023 before getting injured and falling down the depth chart last year. There's some other guys on the outside looking in, but until they show more in training camp I dont see anyway they make the 53. And only Jaycee, Mike Jack, and Smith-Wade are locks to make this roster IMO.
    • Was just reading the Ask the Old Guy story on the team's website and was shocked to see that only two 2nd Rounders have signed so far, 30 of them haven't. That isn't normal, the Texans really screwed things up for the rest of the league, no other explanation that I can think of for 30 of the 32 picks to still be unsigned at this point.
    • They need to address CB before season starts. This is not going to cut it.
