Here's a new Jimmy C question for you

I don't remember the issue being that he threw people under the bus. I could be wrong but I thought the concern was more that he wasn't well liked by his teammates. Or something along those lines at least. As for how that is going, I only know of one really unhappy person. Others haven't been so vocal.

I'm fine giving him anther shot...but he needs to develop on the sidelines at least for a year before getting it.
he needs another shot to see what he can do, but he doesn't need to wait a year before he gets it. the sooner the better, imo.

i don't think he should be given the 2nd chance right out, though. competition needs to be brought in, and i mean long term competition...not some old one or two year guy.

if he can win the job in TC, then he should start. we don't need to sit anyone who has the potential to be the franchise QB, imo. we need to get him in there and getting used to the job. let this young team grow up with him in that job.

nah, on that jon gruden thing supposedly he threw one of his WRs under the bus by saying that a blown play was because the WR ran the wrong route.

fwiw, none of the players have had anything negative to say about him at all.

attitude wasn't an issue, but most other things were.

also, while he does seem to have a decent relationship with some of the younger guys now, I don't know that Smith ever warmed to him at all. Not a big deal, but...

He also didn't really show much in the way of leadership... or frustration on the field. Kinda weird to be honest. He seemed somewhat emotionless at times.

QBs don't take big steps forward in year 2. You throw Clausen in as the starter next season and his career here imo is automatically over.

to me Clausen looks like a project (lots of issue that have nothing to do w/ playcalling or talent around him).

Plus, based on what Rivera/Chud have talked about wanting to do......Clausen is gonna ride the pine and given a chance to develop imo.

I remember the Gruden thing, I just don't remember thinking he was throwing him under the bus. I think he was probably telling the truth and didn't know that he was supposed to not say anything negative and be a team player. I remember thinking that Clausen is like many young spoiled QBs who had everyone bend over backwards in high school and college. Wasn't used to it not being all about him. Didn't really know how to act and what to say. He wants to do well and please everyone and when it didn't happen he didn't know what to do. I doubt Fox was much of a comfort in that arena. It takes time to adjust and fit in.

It was also hard for him to come in and gain the support of his teammates and show leadership when things started so poorly and went downhill from there. Leadership on the field comes when a Qb makes plays and wins games. When that isn't happening on the field, it is hard to get much respect off the field. Especially from the older veterans who remember Moore and Delhomme when they played well and see Clausen as a distinct trade down so far. It doesn't mean he won't get better and earn their respect this year, but it could be hard to give it to him wholeheartedly based on his play this year. When Moore and Jake both came in, they had pretty much instant success and it was easy to give them respect on and off the field. Clausen has struggled so it understandable that people still have their doubts. It puts Clausen in a tough position.

I agree with Rayzor let him and a FA battle in TC for the job. If he loses he sits but if he wins the job in TC their is no reason he should sit out a year.

If he is the best guy we have in the preseason we don't really have any other options. We have to put the best guy out there and try to be competitive. Honestly if he is the best guy out there one of 2 things is happening. We either didn't bring in anyone else worth a darn (which I doubt happens), or he is playing a heck of a lot better which is a good thing. Of course we want Clausen to be excellent going forward, I just wouldn't be putting all my eggs in that basket.

i think that was more just the perception of it. i believe its also what gruden called it.

he may have been correct, but the right answer as a QB is usually "it's my bad."

no doubt there was a lot of things that he had to learn and still has to learn, but with his work ethic, hopefully he'll get there.
