Super duper great guys! We'll hold the other team to 7 points!

But then, lose most of our games because all we can score is 3.

pfft even with Clausen and Davidson we averaged like 12 points a game.

Chud has got to be good for at least another point or two.... so as long as our D can hold people under 14 we're good!!

Rufftown - re: your sig...

You realize, that right now, we don't even have a Rodney Peete equivalent... right?

How do we know how good Clausen actually is? I don't think you can properly evaluate the guy after last season, especially with the offensive minds that we had.

Am I concerned about his ability to throw vertically? Sure. But, I think you need to give the kid time, to see what he can do. Give him a mentor veteran QB, and let him learn some more.

If he sucks this season, fine. That means we'll be in prime position to try and get Andrew Luck next draft, while picking up a stud at DT.

can we stop with the "it's okay if we keep Clausen and lose because we can get luck then" garbage?

don't care who or what luck is, he's not worth two 2-14 seasons and two number one draft picks...

time to move on. sure, we can stick with Clausen this year in camp etc but we better have a fuging plan if he fizzles that is deeper than "draft a QB next year" or this team is in trouble.

I'm not saying it will be okay to constantly lose. I'm just saying, if we give Clausen the reigns this year, we will see how good of a QB he actually is.

If he does good, great, we have a future QB.

If he sucks, then there is still a silver-lining.

Can we also stop the "I don't like a guy because someone else on a message board said he was a one-trick pony, therefore he obviously is, and CLEARLY will suck because he went to the same high school as a bust"?

Not only did Fairley and Jamarcus go to the same High school, but they are FRIENDS!

Actually the article is talking about D-Linemen which included DEs and DTs

If you scroll down, here's the DTs

I understand but when I asked you about the DT's you said one of the top three is a panther. Charles Johnson is a DE. Also it doesn't comfort me that Nick Hayden is that high on the notable DT list.

If the FO thinks Newton can be a starter you have to take him. He has all the potential and physical tools to be elite in this league.

All we can say with certainty is how he did and what was recorded in his debut.

He sucked. Period.

In the history of the NFL, please find me one QB who had rookie numbers like Clausen's, that went on to be just a playoff competent starter (meaning a rating above 85), and you might have a point.

Josh Freeman QB rating: Went from 59 in 2009 to 95 this season.

Jimmy Clausen QB rating: 58 in 2010 so..... i take it 1 point is a gargantuan difference?

Brett Farve had like a 0 qb rating his rookie season and played in 2 games...

    • I'd like to see the gameday chats come back, especially if you can get it mobile compatible and like those support chats that stay on the screen even when you move around the site. We could use them during CLTFC and Hornets games now too.
    • There's a lot of truth here, but at the same time, that one year of production we might be paying for is actually paying for a development arc. And a lot of players have those. QB is the most complicated position in sports, hands down.  I'm not saying Bryce will make it past the hump this year, the odds are stacked against him just like any QB in the league that isn't already considered an elite player (and there are only about 5-8 of those at most). Arcs happen, and slow arcs happen, too. Sam Darnold seemed a wash up for the Jets and a horrible mistake. He was better with us, but still couldn't carry a bad team on his shoulders (or bad coaching). He went to Minnesota and got a shot under better coaching with more mature eyes to see the field. Something sparked and then he took his team to the Super Bowl and brought home a ring. Baker Mayfield had a similar arc, and may yet hit the big game. Hell, locally, Jake Delhomme had one. Or Bryce could flutter back down having already hit his peak. It happens. More often than any of us want to admit. We've paid for a full development arc for Bryce, but we've had it on rookie deal rates and that's been a savings that has let us build out the rest of the team, which was really needed. Maybe we end up diving back into the QB pool in the first round next season. Might be the guy, might not.  But he'll be set up with a better team that Bryce was when he started. Or maybe, just maybe, Bryce adds another seven TDs and loses four INTs on the season. Grabs three more wins and maybe a playoff win, maybe two. It's not completely impossible and that'd be great for the team and for him.  We're just going to have to tune in and see how it plays out. Probably won't be boring.
    • I am holding out hope for a miraculous run this season. But you know the narrative around him is peak delusional when the Panthers social team can post this without even a hint of irony. Four years and almost 50 games into his career he still looks like he's never set foot in the weight room. Really?
