I don't think it's as much that he didn't play in a pro-style offense but the fact that he played in nearly the furthest thing from it save the triple option.

Here is one for you to prove how successful he will be LOL. Seriously, didn't Joe Montana come from the triple option?? I guess that was why they didn't draft him until the third round. The draft pundits made a mistake then and those that ignore Newton will be making potentially the same mistake. Am I saying he will be the next Joe Montana?? No simply that judging a quarterback's potential based on the system they played in college can be a mistake. It is about what kind of guy he is and what he brings to the table which far outweighs the system he comes from. Intangibles, good leadership skills, athletic talent all are far more important than his college scheme.

So far Newton has passed the tests. Next up is the combine, individual workouts and interviews. Lets see how they go before we keep nitpicking. The evaluation of those attributes such as football knowledge, discussions about his past, work ethic and leadership far outstrip scheme discussions. If he is the right guy we can make it work. If he isn't then nothing else really matters.

It is clear that if they thought highly enough of a prospect they WOULD take that player despite having Clausen.

who is doing that and what names are they throwing out there?

i haven't seen anybody throw out some name and say that proves he will be good.

Strange, I've seen people refer to Big Ben and Vick to say why they think he will be good... things like "Big Ben came from a spread!"... and Vick because he can run.

I never stated he didn't have to improve his game because he does.todays work out says that he is willing to work on his craft to get better and could handle taking on a pro level playbook.

Ugggh, no kidding. It's like your new draft pick has a guaranteed holdout that is completely beyond their control. Worst of all, it impacts the entire f'ing team.

Actually I believe this was the open rehearsal for the Combine, which is in 2 weeks. I have a gut feeling he will throw at the Combine despite the fact he hasn't committed to doing so. Can't wait :)

people (like myself) have been saying he looks like a big ben but i don't see anyone saying that because he looks like big ben or vick that it automatically means success in the same way people have been saying he is going to be just another russell or whatever failed QB they want to mention.

I think one important thing that has gone unnoticed is that Sport's Illustrated's Tony Pauline reported that "at least six teams has Newton rated the #1 overall prospect in the draft.

Not number one QB but number one player overall. If his stock rises he may indeed be a Panther.
