If we don't draft him I'm done with this team. I can't pull for a team with no balls.

It had nothing to do with balls, its about calculated risk. #1 pick is either a big investment with a rookie cap in place or a fuggin HUGE investment without the cap. If I bet you $100 with a contract that said you had to pick 4 of next years playoff teams & if you were wrong you had to pay me $200, would you take it? What if I bet you $1,000 & you had to pay $3,000? How about $2,000, 000 if you can pick the SB winner & their score & if you're wrong you have to pay me $300,000?

What if I bet you $20mil that the Panthers couldn't have 10 winning seasons in a row & if they don't you have to be the sub @ a gay mandingo gangbang party once a month?

What if I made a bet with you and if I was wrong it would set the franchise back 4-5 years. But if I was right the Panthers would be the most exciting and dynamic franchise in football over the next 15. Would you take that??

The thing that will make or break Cam is how he does in chalkboard/tape sessions with teams. If he can demonstrate even a basic understanding of offensive concepts, his draft stock will shoot way up.

Yeah, because heisman winning QB's don't have a basic understanding of offensive concepts? Just because he doesn't come from a pro-style offense doesn't mean he is a retarded robot that just runs around with the ball. On the other hand, I am not claiming that he can fully grasp a Pro Offense, but to question his understanding of basic offensive concepts (30 Passing TD's and 20 Rushing TD's last season) is a little ridiculous.

Listen, I'm a Cam supporter but he played in a one-read-and-run style offense so he's got to demonstrate that he understands how to read coverages, go through progressions, identify blitzes, etc. I'm not saying he can't, I'm just saying he needs to if we wants to be drafted high. I do think too much weight is placed on whether or not a guy played in a pro-style offense in college.

If it was 50-50 then yes.

But it is definitely not 50-50.

to be "most exciting and dynamic franchise", I'd say roughly 20-1 odds.

Lets just see how it plays out.

But if Cam is drafted by us, then I will be 100% behind him. And I will convince myself that he is going to be great. I did it with Jimmy, lol.

How is that when they will never be on the same team?

You never know what's gonna happen in this draft just because some of the 'fans' don't want Newton. Doesn't mean we aren't gonna take him. The last word goes to Hurney and he said QB is "number 1 need" in Carolina.

To me, if the guy is putting in this kind of work now, the bigger question is this - will he continue to put in that kind of work once he's drafted and paid? Good for him for busting it and, according to those who saw the workout, showing that kind of improvement, but is the ultimate goal to get drafted or to become an elite QB? Seems like it should be an easy question, but a lot of guys that age may not realize the difference.

Not a knock on Cam personally, just a general comment re: the danger of this type of scenario.

    • Everyone (I'm not just focusing on you sir) seems to think that trade set the team back for a decade. It really didn't. Scott F was a terrible GM. I do not think for one minute that we would have turned those trades into draft gold. All you have to do is look at this draft record. Fitterer had the top pick in the 2023 draft and blew it. We've passed over players we could have used in each of his drafts to trade down and pick up gems like TMJ 🙄. Other times he'd trade up a pick gems like Matt Corrall and DJ Johnson 🙄. He probably would have used those picks to acquire more picks in lower rounds  and choose the players with the highest RAS scores. I think the season before Burns left he literally had about 1/3 of our sacks. I said it would be a bad idea to not resign him if you didn't have a player (or players) on the roster to replace that production. To this day we still don't have a consistent pass rusher off the edge on either side. Our lack of of a pass rush is arguably our biggest weakness on defense.
