Dan Morgan on Rich Eisen show

Dan still can’t watch the 2003 SB tape. Can’t blame him. He’s definitely not ok with losing.

And he was probably the MVP of that game had the panthers won.   He had 11 unassisted tackles, 7 assisted, for 18 tackles, the most in Super Bowl history--think about that-Ray Lewis, Jack Ham, Mike Curtis, Ray Nitschke, Mike Singletary--the list of super bowl ILBs is sick.

I mean the Panthers GM used to post on this forum back in the day and the jerk offs trolled him with concussion comments...

Heck id bet if the Luke Ness Monster himself posted here there would be jerk offs doing the same thing.

Some people just want to get the attention of a celebrity and feel zero empathy for that player's feelings or personal space.  My dad was lifelong friends with some big names in football (Roman Gabriel, Dan Reeves) and baseball (Pete Rose and Tommy Helms of the Reds) and I learned very young that they are people doing a job and really want to be treated like everyone else.  So when I see a celebrity in public who is flying under the radar, I try not to bring attention to myself or them--I might wave if we make eye contact but that is about it.

Flashback

In Washington DC (Georgetown) I was eating at a restaurant with my then fiance (she dumped me later--still hurts) and at the end of the dinner, I whispered to her, "Do not look back until we are getting up to leave, but do you know who has been sitting behind you for about 15 minutes?"  She said, "No.  Who?"  I stood to leave, so she turned around while picking up her purse, saw him, and turned back around to look at me with a shocked facial expression.  It was Billy Crystal.  I put my finger over my lips to keep her quiet, but she turned toward him and said, "You look Marvelous!! (one of his famous lines) and proceeded to tell him that her favorite movie is The Princess Bride, a film Crystal had a small part in as Miracle Max.  Grabbing her upper arms from behind, I looked at Crystal sympathetically and he cracked a faint grin--and I gently pulled her toward the exit.  She was mad at me for not telling her sooner and said that I embarrassed her by pulling her away.  I told her "You had already embarrassed yourself.  I was just doing some damage control."  I knew that she had exposed him, and how much he was valuing his anonymity until she sounded the trumpets.

There’s no questioning what this franchise means to him

in the video, he referred to himself as a "former Carolina Panther"

he left out the "player, on the field" portion of that sentence. Once a Panther, ALWAYS a Panther (well, some exceptions may apply)

Didn’t catch that one. Hmmmm…

From just a couple videos, Dan seems to be big on nuance.

In the draft video, he commented when Tmac said he “would get the chance to play here.” How he said what he said made an impression on Dan.

He comes off as a pretty deep dude in these videos, in true southpaw style.

First of all, loved this video. I watched last night.

I normally not one to do, I told you so's,,,,,

Most around here hated the fact Dan Morgan was promoted to GM.  In my eyes, he had paid his dues, and had earned the opportunity to run a team.

I dont know how anybody can be against him at this point.  He lives and breathes football.  He absolutely is the right man for the job.  I also have to give him credit for bringing Dace C, and Tillis.

This franchise has the best front office it has ever had, IMO.

And under Teppers ownership.

Keep pounding Dan.

I guess I was in the minority I loved the Dan Morgan promotion to GM

Boy that Blueprint Episode 1 did wonders for Dan Morgan and Brandt Tilis

I also think it went well for Tepper who appeared to let his people do their jobs

    • My general take on the state of the team not going too in depth is this: Either Morgan or Canales (hard to say whether it’s the players or the system/coaching, and that goes for any team) has been responsible for considerable strides forward on D and a bit more productive offense, but it’s been a small sample size and we collapsed at the end of the year. I lean towards it being more Canales growing as a coach and building a culture of buy-in and getting the most out of players in the locker room. My reasoning for leaning there is that Morgan was part of the Fitterer stink and it’ll take him a while of sustained success in roster management to overcome that in my mind. Next year is a big year to see if that was a fluke or not. These big signings this offseason are exciting and sometimes teams can have amazing FA classes but more often than not those who spend big and “win the offseason” don’t show the results in the regular season.    As far as QB goes, in a vacuum I’m completely fine with the Pickett signing, he’s ok value for a backup and a huge improvement over Dalton. If Bryce went down there isn’t a huge drop off there and if the rest of the team builds on last year they could win games with him under center. I’m not sure the ‘85 Bears could win games with current Dalton under center. But the O is just so damn limited with Bryce and Pickett does not push him at all, he’s purely a backup. So I agree we I’d love to see a QB with some upside drafted, a guy who could actually push Bryce if/when he struggles or doesn’t improve any further. He’s improved steadily the last 2 years but it has been from arguably worst in league history to still below average. I’m not convinced he can get any better than purely average at absolute best. I hope he can man but I just don’t see it happening. And the longer we keep penciling him as starter the less confidence I have in this staff. Even with our unexpected relative success as a team last year sometimes you do have to take another step back to take a step forward, and that could mean moving on from Bryce, and temporarily going with a slightly worse player like Pickett while aggressively trying to upgrade the position and taking dart throws in the draft/free agency on upside players. I know, there wasn’t much available this offseason outside of Willis, and this draft class seems to be poor at QB. But I’d have preferred we try something and if it didn’t work and we took a step back then just keep trying until something hits. Rolling with Bryce is just delaying the inevitable and living in purgatory.    just my 2 cents, hope I’m proved wrong
    • His market value is 15.7 million. Not worth it to bring him at his age, at that price. If we were to bring in a veteran, DeAndre Hopkins is available for 2 million market value. I've said this in other threads, get Keenan Allen to play the slot. He's as good as a pass catching tight end and is market is under 7 million.
