That's the other thing. With the way these QB contracts are going unless you have an elite MVP caliber tier QB you're honestly better off building an offense that is geared to revolve around establishing the run and leaning on play action to setup the pass than you are to pa my some mid to lower tier starter a huge chunk of your salary cap. Let somebody else pay that guy and draft another one.

Yeah, it's a tough spot. Not too many teams in the last 30 years have won without an elite QB. It's a tough hill to climb but QB purgatory is worse.

Yeah just be the Eagles.  Pay your young QB a questionable extension earlier into his rookie deal and then sign the highest priced free agent RB.  I think that's why I filtered them from my mental models of teams that work, because that's not a model you can repeat.  But I guess neither is having Pat Mahomes.

Yep, you're better off needing a QB than you are financially shackled to a mediocre one.

Yeah, it's a tough spot to be in. There are no sure answers. You can suck wind and end up with Bryce or Sam Darnold. But sometimes you get Josh Allen or Joe Burrow.

Or you can just keep trying to win and end up drafting Kenny Pickett or Dwayne Haskins. But, you could also get Patrick Mahomes or Lamar Jackson.

Ultimately, I think you can't really "plan" for trying to get an elite QB or force it. Frankly, that is part of why we are in the spot we are in at the moment.

You just do what you can to build a winner and hope your structure and evaluations end up with the QB that can either be truly elite or be the outlier that pushes you across the ultimate goal line of raising that trophy.

Yep, you got a be flexible and you gotta be honest about your player evaluations. Yeah, you take what many considered to generational QB prospect in Trevor Lawrence but you can't turn around and pay him like a high tier franchise QB after a few years of mediocre play. That Marty Hurney approach of "let's pay him like he's elite and then maybe he'll start playing like it" almost never works out.

Or Goff or Purdy or Dak or.....it's the era of doing this. You just gotta hope you aren't one.

It's exciting because , running the ball and stopping the run, putting pressure on the QB have stood the test of time.  If Bryce and offense can operate efficiently we should be in good shape.  My only concern still is the secondary depth and ability to cover.

I think the Niners just hopped on the bandwagon too

I believe the Niners think they copied the Eagles formula but the Niners roster isn’t as good. We will see this season for sure with CMC coming back.

    • It’s going to get wild after this Sunday.  I would assume Dave has a really smart plan.   Sorta like the AZ plan last year.    After a big turnover heavy  bad game Bryce normally reels it in.  Bryce will have one of his standard 60% for 200 days and the Bryce defenders will use that as a “ I told you he is good” games.
    • Bryce is a really smart kid and I'm sure he knows all the answers to the test but he hasn't been able to overcome his lack of physical tools and other DC's know this and play him accordingly. I think Bryce has good processing but when the correct read is the WR 30 to 40 yards down field and you have a defensive lineman coming at you what can he really do? He just doesn't have the arm to effectively and consistently hurt the defense and I think that's what's gonna do him in.  Pime example look at the INT versus Dallas last year when Thelien was wide open down the seam and Bryce threw it from a clean pocket and the ball was way short. Dc's watched that and knew that Bryce can't throw the ball deep.
    • I'd give Bryce until the trade deadline to prove he's the answer and if he's not I'm dumping him for whatever pick we can get and I'm riding with Dalton the rest of the way.  2 and a half years is enough time to determine if he can be the QB going forward so for Bryce he needs to come out over the next couple of weeks and show that. The other players in the locker room don't wanna waste another year of their careers waiting to see if you'll ever figure it out.  If you took a poll of the players in the locker room I'm sure they'd rather lose with a respected veteran Dalton who at least gives them some creditability versus losing with Bryce who the entire media will say was let down by his supporting cast when in reality it's Bryce's physical limitations that are holding this team back.
