College homers are the absolute worst, I swear. 

Pro sports homers can't touch it.

Still waiting for someone, anyone, to tell me what coach and recruits would've made the UNC situation better.  The rabbit hole this has turned into ends with that answer.

I mean, there's being a homer and then there's just being completely willingly irrational. We all have homerish tendencies when things are going well but damn... I'm not gonna delude myself into acting like dog poo smells like roses.

Why would I be here if I wasn't interested in other fans of my favorite team's opinions.  

Your opinion is Bill Belichick and the Tarheels suck, and I agree with that presently.  Then I asked what you would've done differently given the situation and you said "I don't know".  To me your (or anyone's - online or in real life) opinion doesn't really mean anything without some solution or thought behind it.

Okay, fine. I'll throw some names at you I would've considered for HC:

Dan Mullen

Matt Entz

The portal is too deep to get into and I honestly don't pay enough attention to do it across the board but let's just stick to the key position - QB. Indiana gave Fernando Mendoza less than we gave Gio Lopez. Hell, speaking of Indiana I would've called Cignetti too. I know he's older than would be ideal but he's still a decade younger than the guy we hired and he's actually a proven winner at the COLLEGE level and didn't have to get lured back into the game off the couch.

but if the Panthers hired Dabo next year, why would I need to give you a name of a better hire to call the bad Dabo hire, a bad hire?  It's the same thing.  

and you can literally buy almost any player.  Heck UNC could of paid Air Noland that oddly went down to SC to improve their QB situation.

Dan Mullen I could get with.  Matt Entz is a complete unknown.

The one thing neither of those two would've done is have UNC football constantly on Sportscenter, Pat McAfee, 60 Minutes, etc. over the course of the spring and summer.  That isn't translating to wins, so it means nothing, but at the time the coverage was excellent PR and excitement for the program.

Mendoza's little brother plays at Indiana. As soon as he was told he wouldn't start at Georgia (the only other school he legit considered) he was never going anywhere but Indiana, which is why he was cheap.

Cignetti is making $9M a year if you include his retention bonus.  So that doesn't solve your paying a coach big money issue.  And to buy him out would cost UNC a literal fortune, which doesn't help your resources argument. 

I appreciate you at least answering the question finally.

You know, I would probably ask the AD and alum that fuged up the current hire so badly. They are supposed to know, right?

      About the Hail Mary… you probably saw but if not, we just went over that a few days ago and I learned that maybe Reich did that to piss Tepper off (heh) and that Bryce was really pissed and so was Tepper. I had intended to search out the replay of that game and look at Reich and Bryce in that moment, for fun. And look at the um, postgame, um, press conference. Haven’t done it.  We are talking 50 yards. Definitely not 60. I think I maybe have seen 45 yards in a game but him throwing 50 yards, IMO, is probably gonna look like a rainbow and take a longer time to get to the target. He has to hit the driver to get that distance, can’t use the three wood or 2 iron like the big boys. Like most NFL QBs. It is kind of like Pinero, his leg is good for what it is good for but anything over a  certain distance, you just can’t do. We moved on, and bang! 57 yarder. We can try them now.  Said it plenty but I just don’t want that kind of limitation put on my favorite football team. Edit: and on the video of that beautiful TD to AT that was about 50 air yards? Announcers called it a rainbow lol. Anyhow, that needs to be tried more because I guarantee AT was behind those guys because they didn’t expect them to try that. If you do that more maybe you get them playing a little more off.
