I don't agree with this notion that Dalton is some washed up scrub. He is one of the better backup QB's in the NFL.

I mean reality says this is simply not true. He is bad. He was bad with the Saints and that's why they rejected him and moved on. You are living in an alternate reality. That's why we cannot come to an agreement.

You can disagree with it if you like, but he is in fact considered one of the best backups in the NFL.

Sad truth is Scott Fitterer put forth significantly more effort with this QB room. And he was a complete trashcan.

Yeah, I mean effort is certainly a word for it. I would largely call the Rhule/Fitterer era as floundering about.

He is one of the nicest guys. Doesn't make him a good QB.

When the New Orleans Saints are more adept at identifying this that is a big problem.

And let's be real. If this coaching staff thought anything positive of Andy Dalton they would not have fully exhausted any and every opportunity to get his ass off the field after horrendous perfomances. Thumb sprain last year they milked it for all it was worth. Then this year in preseason it was an elbow strain after he threw a pick and sacked himself. You guys need to face the music sooner or later.

The fact that Darnold and Mayfield left us and played well for their next teams is just a kick in the balls for how our organization was being run.

I mean, Darnold is a bum and has always been. You will see that in full form this year in Seattle, I predict, on the way to being what he should be....a career backup QB.

Mayfield was literally a good QB prior to us getting him. I never bought into the "Mayfield is a bum" stuff. He wasn't/isn't an elite QB but he is far from a lower tier starter.

They didn't work out well here because how in the fug could you in the conditions we had for them?

Right? There's an image just a page or two back showing all of the QB2s, but all of this hand wringing over "We won't win if Bryce goes down!" and "We can't properly evaluate the rest of the talent on the roster with Dalton either!" is a hell of a commitment to fear and anxiety.

"I'm right and anybody that disagrees with me is living in an alternate reality" is crazy work. It's giving narcissism before lunch.

I can't help you see it, buddy, but it really shouldn't take much more than a look around NFL depth charts and it should immediately become fairly obvious he isn't anywhere close to a lower end backup.

The Saints and their QB "decisions" are probably not the best example of a functional organization. But, please do tell me how Tyler Shough is the guy we should really have.

If we had a really good backup, Bryce would be looking over his shoulder.  Facts. Dalton knows his role as a backup/mentor and isn't gunning for QB1.  A ambitious, young, talented backup would create a QB competition and that's something this team doesn't want for some crazy reason.

It's true, but also the best backups in the NFL are not very good.  Relatively speaking.  There's not 30 good starters.

Yeah and that is why I am flabbergasted that all this wailing and gnashing of teeth over fuging backup QB's is even happening. Who. The. fug. Cares.

I'm not going off my personal feelings... If I was, I'd have Bryce as the backup and would be trying to trade him and start Dalton for this year. lol

I see the rationale from some folks regarding the level of play from terrible QB's like Andy Dalton as being like someone who has been in abusive relationship for so long they make excuses for their abusers and even defend them. Very sad. But it happens.
