Game Observations

The Panthers are a bad football franchise. We have young receivers who are imperfect. We have had injuries along the OL. But Bryce Young is a downgrade from every single QB that has started for this team since Cam Newton's throwing arm died back in late 2018. And we have invested an absurd amount of resources in order to improve this offense.

Multiple things can be true at one time.

Is Canales really a “QB whisperer” or is Bryce just not that guy. I’m giving him a little bit of a break due to injuries around him and some questionable play designs. I don’t know, maybe this team is just cursed and we will never replace Cam. We still haven’t replaced Gross, Kalil, Smitty, Luke…

Canales might end up being a dud but there's nothing he or any other head coach is going to be able to do in order to make Bryce Young taller or not have mediocre at best arm talent.

Tell me again why you started a Bryce sucks thread last year

It was actually two. One last year when Bryce was benched and one in late 2023.

And it's his prerogative to do that. But going around here acting as if his is the only rational unbiased word on the situation after doing so and pretending he never did so is certainly odd.

Qb whisperer assumes there’s a QB to whisper to.

This is a really terrible take...

Prove me wrong . Name his best game ever off the top of your head since he’s been here . You can’t . Name a game where he wrecked it . You can’t. He make a 100 million to have invisible stats . He Doesn’t get sacks at all and dont get tfls. i don’t want to hear about double teams all top dts get double teamed and they produce with numbers to back it up . He makes too much money to never notice him on the field

Brown is a beast. There was a video up of him totally rag dolling a Cardinal lineman. It was a legit rag dolling of that guy. I haven’t seen one big man do that to another for some time.
Sacks are not the best measure of his value, IMO. If he takes up two guys then one of his teammates should be eating. I don’t much of that.
I would say look at Brian Burns the other day tearing. He wasn’t doing that until they put more in the line with him that people have to worry about. Now he is eating.

(hopefully Brown’s teammates will take advantage of what he is doing for them)

How about if I let Brian Baldinger do it for me?

I'd add the notion that "he makes too much money to not have great stats" is a silly argument. Loads of great players in various positions produce lesser stats because teams concentrate on taking them away, which is all part of the chess match.

Stats don't win games. Players do.

    • I agree.  He is solid. Another player I think is underrated and with good reason (I will explain): Monroe Freeling UGA Many have him the fifth-rated OT, but I would put him at 2 or 3.  Reason?  He played the season with an ankle issue and still kicked arse.  Here is a write-up that describes him--the injury, in my view, has him rated lower than if healthy all season. OT Monroe Freeling Georgia | 6'7" | 315 lbs Ht:6'7" Wt:315 lbs Class:JR Age:21 (25-Jul-2004) Monroe Freeling earned Second-Team All-SEC honors from league coaches for his performance during the 2025 season. Starting 12 of 13 games, he was twice named SEC Offensive Lineman of the Week after dominant showings against Auburn and Texas, notably grading out at 80 percent with zero pressures allowed against the Longhorns. During the 2025 season, he managed a nagging ankle injury suffered against Kentucky but remained a cornerstone for an offense that ranked first nationally in fourth-down conversions. As a draft prospect, he is recognized for his exceptional reach, mobility in pass protection, and "road-grading" power in the running game. While he has proven to be a reliable starter at left tackle, he also offers significant versatility having started at multiple positions along the line during the 2024 season. Here are some others I like (mostly developmental, but we have at least a year--we hope--at RT)   Your boy: The Panthers were looking at Barber at the SR Bowl practices, I believe.  Good run blocker--needs work in pass pro.  A RT candidate? Shelton would be an ideal swing OT. I really like Bowry.  Footwork is huge for a T, and we do a lot of zone blocking.
    • We could/should re-sign BC and Nijman and draft 2.  There are 5 or 6 expected to go after round 1 that I really like.   Some are a year away, so I would give Moton an apprentice now.
    • I think (April 2025) the Panthers already gave Ickey his 5th year deal for 2026, a $17m fully guaranteed.  This, in my view, eliminates the practicality of signing a free agent, as if any ever make it to free agency anyway.  So we have a year before deciding on Ickey's next deal / future.
