He outperformed Mayfield, Darnold and Jones statistically when compariing their second year of play. Did you watch any of the games after he came off the bench last season?

Your use of stats to advocate for Bryce being better than he really is, is why I don’t really take some of the stats arguments seriously. I can see what he is.

And I have not watched the games this year but have scoped some post analysis, but I watched every snap for the first two years, some twice.

He doesn’t look like some different guy in year 3. He is the same guy he was, and further - pretty much the same as he was in college. Unfortunately.

I am getting a pretty big whiff of Stan here. Here is how I see your future: one day you will finally realize he is a failure at professional football. When that happens, you won’t be making boast posts about how good he was in year two anymore, you will be posting about how the Panthers ruined him his first season. With a straight face.

I just highlighted previous Panthers QB's that the board has trashed. The others were added as they had similar fates.

prior to Bryce Young being drafted #1 overall he was being compared to other NFL HOF Qbs

Drew Bees

Peyton Manning

Patrick Mahomes

does any of that make any sense right now  ? if not , then thats a good example of why you should not compare players.

when evaluating a player focus on just that one particular player the good & bad in order to get a true assessment

No, if he ends the season doing badly I'll admit it. I'm not so invested in him or my ego that I can't admit that everyone on the board was right. In the meantime, I have hope he can turn it around

Honestly what planet do you live on?

Be careful what you wish for was relevant before David Tepper.  Now there's nowhere to go but up.  The worst case scenario is we stay the same.  We can't be relegated.  We're already uncompetitive and don't even look like an NFL team.  And we haven't in quite some time.  In fact, you could have a 10 year old child that's never seen a competitive Panthers team.

So what exactly are you afraid of?

How would you be patient?   He gets this year and then what?   I gave you the only 3 options

Not sure there are any other options at this time or they would have already implemented them. I think Canales needs to do a better job with time management, play calling and having the players ready but I can't make any of that happen. I think him supporting Legette is fine but I don't think he has earned the no 2 receiver spot - hell, not even the 3 or 4 spot but I would guess he will still be out there next Sunday. I don't thnk Evero should have been brought back but he was.

Again, I don't have an answer - I just don't think Young is as much of the problem as most people here believe.

Bryce turning into who he never was somewhere else? It psychosis based on a sold fantasy that had no contact with actual reality.

The team is going to do whatever they do. Being angry at the player for the teams stupidity is misplaced outrage. Of course it will be a bad investment to extend him. But what can I do to make it not happen? I can promise you that whatever happens with Young an extension here is the last thing I'm worried about at the moment. The only reason he is starting right now is they have no other choice. Thats on the GM and coaches to deal with.

I get that. Im just saying with the comment be careful what we wish for with moving on from Bryce, this is the position we're in. Its almost extension time so we're going to have to make a choice soon. The beginning of year 3 looks the same as years 1 and 2 and thats not good for us as a franchise.

We need a better plan for QB development in place for sure. Whoever our next rookie QB is, overall 1 or round 2 or 3, they need to sit the 1st year behind a vet. No more trade ups for QBs. That 1st year on the bench seems to be far more valuable. Our FO needs to get their poo together before Bryce or any other QB really stands a chance at success.

My crystal ball tells me another qb will be brought in to compete for the starting job and if Young is here no extension will be offered going into year 4. It does not reveal where said qb will come from.  For another $100 I can try again.

What if Young starts playing like he did after his benching last season. What does it say then?

    • Didn't  see this posted (since 2023) but since folks have been posting that you can't judge a draft class for three years (a ridiculous take), I thought I'd post this to see what people thought about the 2023 draft. Unfortunately this may not be the most interesting class to do this with but I do quite like retrospective draft grades. Would appreciate other's takes on this (and other recent) draft classes.   1(1) - Bryce Young QB: I am a bigger Bryce Young apologist than most (maybe all). I like the kid. But there is no way around it: This was a terrible pick. If he had been picked in the 4th or even the 3rd round I would feel pretty good about it. But this was the first overall pick that we gave up two firsts, our best offensive player to get.  GRADE: C -    2(39) - Jonathan Mingo WR: not much to say here here. He was here for two years. His yards per catch are on par with Bryce's yards per pass. Rough stuff. To date he has still never scored a touchdown in the NFL GRADE: F   3(80) - DJ Johnson OLB: a pick I hated as soon as it happened and an example of why the premise of this thread is honestly dumb. This was a bad pick when it happened. Most people knew it.  Then came training camp and he did not look good. Then came the preseason which confirmed what we saw in TC. Then came the season which confirmed what we saw in preseason. To date, he has half a sack in his career. GRADE: F 4 (114) Chandlers Zavala G: Honestly the best pick of this draft which really speaks to how awful this draft is. Other than Bryce, the only pick still on the team. He is mostly average or below average depth which in round 4 is not terrible. But he had a pff score of 43.5 and though I think people have unrealistic expectations for draft picks, I still would want a little more from a fourth round pick GRADE: C+   5 (145) - Jammie Robinson S: I liked the pick when it happened but ended up being a disappointment. He logged 1 tackle with the falcons last year and not enough snaps to get a grade on PFF.  GRADE: F OVERALL DRAFT GRADE: F
