Where in the world did this run D come from?

Another contributing factor is bringing in dudes that are more ‘football smart,’ not just workout warriors and tell them ‘go get man who holding on to football.’

Boom plays better downhill. Tell him what to do and he’ll give his all. He’s not a green dot kind of guy. He’s not a great coverage guy (how many LBs are?)  but he’s decent at pass rush and playing the run. He’s got a little wild man to him and I can appreciate that. Many will disagree, but I consider him to be a high motor JAG currently.

Now to get Evero to dial up some better blitz pressure.

Derrick Brown is one of the most unsung heroes in the history of our franchise. He's played almost entirely through the dark ages, but he is an absolutely dominant, game wrecking force. He's definitely the best player we've had since 1 and 59. If he had played on a better team he'd likely be a HOF type player. The team was absolutely miserable, but if we had even been decent he'd have had a case for DPOY in 2023.

He's legit one of the best DT's I've ever seen.

They’ve played terrible teams.

They play a terrible team next week.

then things are going to get dark.

I view things in a similar manner. In the last 2 weeks we haven't played a playoff caliber team. We'll know what we really have on defense when we hit the harder part of our schedule.

Bobby Brown next to Derrick Brown is the real answer. Turk hasn't been playing.

Bobby Brown has outplayed Turk in the small sample size of games this year. I don't know how that rotation is going to go because of money, but we have had better run defense in each game Turk hasn't played. Jacksonville and New England, we looked like last year. I know there were other factors such as DJ Johnson, but we looked way better.

    • Damn I liked A'Shawn too. This is basically a heads up we're planning on cutting you move.  Robinson wasn't the best but I loved his attitude and effort on the field. He held that entire dline together when Brown went down iirc..granted we finished that season as the worst rushing defense in modern NFL history.  If Wharton would have performed up to atleast half of his salary last season, I'd feel a little better about it. We do need that cap space though.
    • 13. Carolina is coming. The Panthers are well thought of around the league. Their "process" seems sound. I think their off-season will be very interesting to keep an eye on. They made the playoffs, but they're not yet knocking on the door. (Offense was 26th in EPA/play.) I think it's imperative they don't overestimate where they are in their build. They can't throw a ton of money around in FA to "make a run now". They need to be intentional about building a solid foundation. (IMO) And from what I know about the team... I think they will be. Sidenote: I have my eye on offense there, not defense. They HAVE to leave next season with a strong opinion on Bryce Young. They need to put pieces around him to do that. Can't be left wondering what he would have looked like with "better OL play" or "more pass catchers". They have to know. (That part is purely my opinion. No one told me that.) https://x.com/lindsay_rhodes/status/2027212533417869499?s=46&t=xeIgh_-Vr2aKxBkBJdfnKA
    • Because this DL is completely reliant on Brown being available and being a stud. Without him we were the worst D in history. The Wharton signing last year reeked of desperation. He just isn't a great fit for us schematically and I think we panicked a little bit when we missed out on Milton Williams who would have been a great fit.
