The Bryce Young "Game Winning Drive" narrative needs to end

Jake went to the Super Bowl his first season.

Bryce has 1 road win in year 3.

Bryce isn’t present day Jake

Jake > Bryce but there were A LOT of games where Jake was carried by the defense and running game to offset his pick-sixes.

Delhomme also played in an era where defenders could maul his WRs.

And Delhomme was a gunslinger.  Which means you get the mix of BIG plays and costly plays with that.  Bryce still gives you the costly plays WITHOUT being a gunslinger….which is why he isn’t Jake

More experience than any of us around here.

Point is, why not buy into that thinking instead of trying to point out how he's going to fail?  How does that benefit us?

Root for him until it is over imo.  He's the guy.  I rooted for Teddy when he was here, and I can't stand his play style.

So does this apply to all players on the team or only the QB?

Players showing promise.  I am not a Bryce hater.  He has shown enough to me to feel that other factors could be bringing him down, especially given our history.

I don't buy the he's not an NFL QB angle.  If he wasn't capable, there wouldn't be windows of perfection.

We invested heavily into him, and I don't see a logical move to change it right now.

So, for a few different reasons, right now, he is the guy.  I root for our guys.  I use Teddy as an example, because I hated when he was our QB, but he was still the guy.  I rooted for him while he was the guy, but was happy when he left, too.

I’m not saying Delhomme wasn’t better than Bryce. I’m saying the team he played on was 70% better. They were different style QBs but their stats are very similar. The only reason Jake was around that long was because we won games and usually at the last minute on GWDs.

So it's all subjective to how you feel about a player and whether you think he show promise.  Others opinions don't matter

Well I am a Bryce hater. And if we are winning let things be. I don’t care what his stats are.

I don't think it is an opinion when the stats back it up.

If he was as garbage as people claim, he would not be capable of having 10/10 drives with 3 TDs and a perfect passer rating.

Someone compared him to Clausen.  That is just hate imo.  Not sure why.

Even if he is decent going down the stretch taking 6 games to get to average is not acceptable

There are too many factors to place this blame on Bryce.  It is a team game.  1 man is not going to make up for that.

It's not like we haven't seen this scenario play out already with Darnold and Mayfield.

Support him and keep building while he is the guy.  I see no value in hating on him.

You can say that about every player on the team then.

You are going to see whatever you want.  You are just going to ignore the points I make, because you want to hate on the guy.

He's not Jimmy Clausen.  The guy shows perfection out there at times.  Why not give him the benefit of the doubt, especially when he is our only option right now, and we have seen this play out with other QBs?  Surely you don't think we are the best home for a QB?

Clearly he can win games when the cast supports him.

The whole teams looks bad the first few weeks under Canales. I mean Reich’s whole team looked bad in 2023 but that was then. I think this new group struggles getting them ready in training camp/preseason for opening weeks.

    • I'm not a huge fan of BY, but he does have some clutchness developing
    • While you're correct, people are just sick of being told, "you don't understand this, you're dumb" despite what their eyes say. This applies to the Panthers and anything else in life. This board can be a miserable place, but this isn't the old days anymore because Social Media & Reddit have hijacked old-school forum users.  I have in the last year or so taken a massive step back from Social Media & Reddit. Deleted accounts on both, I only have X/Twitter now. But I was looking for an outlet for Panthers talk and I did not want to do that on X much at all. There are only two legitimate outlets for that I've found, here and SB Nation. SB Nation I used to partake in, but they absolutely bumble-f*cked the comments section, and I like the setup of the posts + comments, as opposed to article + comments. Also, as others have pointed out, being a Panthers fan has been a horrendous existence since Cam left. Just an awful crew of coaches, draft picks, trading away great players, etc. It's been miserable.  Ever since Tepper bought the team, I hoped that he commit to a full rebuild. He never did, he thought there were shortcuts and so did Rhule. This hamstrung us for years, and then he massively overstepped with the BY trade.  This ruined the team building, because there was no depth, and then it ruined nuanced BY discussions because of the insane haul we gave up. He will never live up to that, I think many people are finally wrapping their heads around that now which is good. The best thing for this board to get better is for the Panthers to win more, draft well, and to stay committed to crawling through this Andy Dufrense poop-pipe to escape the depths of NFL hell. It will be ugly and stink along the way, but you can see already this year if we commit to drafting then the team and the vibes can turn around quicker than you think.  I am extremely optimistic about the draft class this season, it's something to watch, talk about, and celebrate. It also gives Dan and I think by extension Dave Canales more of a leash, which I think we need to give them and grant them the time to turn this boat around.
