The Bryce Young "Game Winning Drive" narrative needs to end

That’s literally a clip from the Giants game in 2015 where the defense had just allowed the game tying score and he gave the nod to say we’ve got this. And we did.

So tell me he didn't sulk on the sidelines with his head in a towel when he played poorly early in his career. Do you remember when he first was drafted he wouldn't even work with the team in the weight room until Thomas Davis set him straight. Cam was our best QB until he got hurt but he had a lot of growing up to do which he did. But let's remember he was a work in progress just like Bryce although at different things. And lets be real Cam joined a much better team than Bryce did especially the defense. What hurt Cam and the team was fruit basket turnover evey year by Gettleman which kept the team from developing chemistry and consistency early in several seasons.  I loved Cam but am realistic about his progress and need to develop and grow.

An interesting factoid to add some fuel back in here:

In Bryce's 9 wins, he has eclipsed 200 passing yards in only 2 of them.

Of those 9 wins, we averaged 156 rushing yards per.

Corollary: right around 200 yards through the air is basically what he’s good for per game.

panthers win if the running game and defense get going and he doesn’t sabotage too badly early.

I will say that Bryce has Cam beat in terms of some of his attitudes and maturity level at that stage of his life. I wish he had half the athletic ability.

And how many games did we win where Delhomme had less than 200 yards passing and we averaged over 150 yards running the ball with JStew and DeAngelo? I really am asking since I don't care enough to research it. But if it was a number, how come he hasn't gotten the crap Bryce has gotten.

Jake got so much crap that it was a long lasting rumor that he was married to hurneys daughter, and there were calls in 2005 to bench him for Chris weinke on this very message board.

And how many QBs have had that much athletic ability as Cam. Look at Tom Brady he surely wasn't athletic and would fall down instead of taking a sack later in his career. And did the Panthers have back to back winning seasons under Cam. Maybe athletic ability is overrated with QBs.

You mean he got crap in 2005 after taking us to the NFC Championship. I don't remember that honestly but am not saying that is it not true. But in either case do you think it was justified?

Okay. I should probably have said what I really thought which was size and arm talent but I was  trying to avoid arguing

Er 2006. Typo. weinke started three games that season

there were plenty of criticisms of Jake during the 2005 season. They went to the nfc championship game sure but they were a wildcard team; they weren’t some dominant team in general.

as far as justified, probably not; but that has nothing to do with the criticisms Bryce receives.

I don’t remember much Jake animosity until he had the arm problem and Hurney had given him the big money. I forget the sequence I think the arm was post contract.

But this place is a magnet for irrational attachments to players. Like Weinke. Lol.

Which I always thought his big extension was a direct result of the mishandling of Pepper and the tagging him killing the cap space and Jake benefitted from that need to move money around or free it up in the short term.
