not saying you are wrong but do you have an example of this?  would love to see the circumstances of a scenario like that.

The only one I can think of is we had Darnold on the 5th year and brought in Baker as "competition." Even then, we had traded for Darnold. I can't think of another instance where the 5th year was used on the drafted QB and then another QB had to be brought in to push the now guaranteed starter.

He doesn’t have to be a guaranteed starter for the entire year. We can bring in an adequate backup to put pressure on him. He has shown progression each year. I expect even better next season.

You're guaranteeing him 27m in 2027. That's your starting LT salary for the season and we're already cash strapped on the line. An adequate backup that can push him at this point (if it's even allowed, which judging by history it's not) is probably going to run 6-12m per season if one is even available with all the teams needing QBs.

Cart before the horse y'all. There's several games left. Let it play put. Of Bryce keeps being an effective game manager and we're competitive we're probably picking up the option. I'm fine with that in that scenario as long as we add competition.

If Bryce goes back to throwing for 130 yards and a TD with an INT and a strip sack then we shouldn't pick it up. I'm not sure we'll have the guts as an organization to make that call and thats where all of my angst originates but let's just see where it goes. Well..We'll... I guess the REAL angst is the concern that if Bryce continues to play like he did yesterday that it wouldn't be out of the question for Tepper's Panthers to back up the Brinks truck and pay him like a franchise QB.

Its odd that most of the Bryce "haters" will give him credit for the good plays but the stans can only see the good plays. They ignore that we need three turnovers and have to keep Bryce under 20 attempts to beat a top team.Thats the formula to win with Bryce. Run the ball, hope you can force turnover, and hope he can hit a throw here and there. That's just life with Bryce at QB.

This is the laziest post I've read of your in years.

Bryce has already proven he can throw more than 20 and still play well.  Has he done it consistently? I'm not sure i want any team to have to consistently ask their QB to throw 40 plus times a game. That is not plan for sustained winning.

In order to best the best teams, which often have good offenses, the best game plans, always involve a run heavy game plan.  You have to keep their offense on the side of the field.

You also have to gave the defense do their part.

Cam's MVP season, he was constantly getting short fields because our defense was taking the ball away.

Stop being lazy.

Stop talking down players abilities.

I'm fine picking up the option if he keeps playing like he did in Atl and he did yesterday. My concern lies in what we've seen from QBs like Mahomes, Allen, Burrow pushing for their extensions at the end of year 3, unlike Lamar who played his out through year 5. Lamar also took a ton of flack for playing on that 5th year instead of pursuing the extension as a league MVP. When/if/how an extension for Bryce falls can change a lot of things regarding how this team looks moving forward.

Atl spent a boatload on cousins and drafted a player they thought could be the guy.

That's a little different than signing a 5th year extension then bringing in another player to push the guy you just extended. Drafting a QB to sit on the bench and learn is how it used to be done and QBs actually perform better generally when they do have that opportunity instead of being plugged into the starting lineup right away.

It’s part of the same scenario I mentioned.  Draft or bring in a fa.  Only diff is the atl deal is more money and longer term.

Lazy is taking someone's point and grossly exaggerating it. Like acting like there isn't a massive gulf between less than 20 attempts and over 40 attempts. Like ignoring that I specifically said "beat a top team". We've beaten two likely playoff teams in the Rams and the Packers.  Bryce had 19 and 20 attempts in those games, respectively. Hence my comment that the formula for us to beat good teams is to run the ball, force turnovers, and limit Bryce to under 20 attempts. That's because it has been. That's not "lazy", that's just honestly looking at how to season and the majority of his career has played out thus far.

You're just trying to reframe the nature of the argument to fit a narrative that I didn't make that you evidently want to argue against anyway.

Oh for sure. It's absolutely nerve wracking knowing that Bryce's camp will be pushing for that extension coupled with Tepper's Panthers history of making terrible decisions.
