Get Quinn

It makes me sick to my stomach thinking about what the UNC defense would have been with Quinn last year. LSU took full advantage of his absence in that first game too, by running end arounds to his side, which was occupied by a true freshman, Kareem Martin. That kid had no chance.

BTW, there is a youtube video of Quinn against BC's LT, who is the number 1 rated tackle in the draft this year, according to Mayock.

UNC homer here... love Quinn, but I don't see how we can justify spending the # 1 overall pick on a guy who has sat for a year unless he totally blows up the combine.

You should know that is very likely to happen. That kid is probably faster than a lot of safeties at 275lbs and he's a freak in the weight room too. Combine that with his film, and coaches are going to be salivating over Quinn.

Having said that, I believe these draft gurus are right and that he will end up in Denver. He will be perfect for a John Fox defense, and we don't really have a big need at DE, unless we lose CJ, or if Rivera doesn't believe in Brown.

I love Quinn!!! But he is a risky play at #1. His speed off the edge is one of the best I have ever seen. He also may run a sub 4.4 40. Rumor is he hit 4.39 in the 40 one time at UNC. I find that hard to believe but that's the rumor.

What I worry about is his ability against the run. He is going to be an elite pass rusher without a doubt (IMO) but is he an every down guy? That is what I'm not sure about him since he didn't play last year. And I guess I'm not sure I would want to use the number 1 pick on a guy who may not be an every down guy.

And somebody who knows Rivera's defense better than me. Does his defense need as much speed on the edge as a Tampa 2 DE?? I mean speed is always nice on the edge but don't they anchor more to open up blitzing lanes for the LB's???

I'm an offense guy so I don't do defense well. Someone smarter than me on that side of the ball please 'splain.

Bowers is a more NFL-ready, every down DE. He is also a sack artist. Quinn is a freakish athlete and could probably play in a 3-4 (OLB) with that speed but can do either. Quinn is perhaps the best athlete in the draft. Better than Green, better than Peterson. He is that athletic.

Interesting comment about Rivera's list. Of course, they are studying all players and all rounds, and they expect to trade down if they can. Taking a shot:

QB:

Blaine Gabbert

Cam Newton

DE:

DaQuan Bowers

Robert Quinn

DT:

Marcell Dareus

Nick Fairely

WR:

AJ Green

DB:

Patrick Peterson

After these 8, I think our interest level drops off considerably. I hope we trade with Tennessee or San Francisco because I would take any of these and the additional picks for the first overall pick.

At some point recently Quinn went from being listed at 260 to 275 now. That was my only complaint about him, 260 being a bit too small for 4-3 DE. He is an outstanding player, and now that he's got the size I wouldn't be opposed to taking him with our first pick after a trade down.
