Nope, they have the pitchforks out and torches lit for XL. Yet another guy in his second season who is the worst Panther to put on a jersey due to him not being another player they wanted to draft, didn't hit the ground running like a Jamar Chase, and any positives(blocking/getting open/running off coverage), are looked at as general nothing burgers. Even though traditionally a WR takes till year three to get it, according to huddle opinions, they should find an exit strategy now.

The Legette of this season just isn't producing.

He's definitely got the physical ability, but there are a lot of plays where he looks like he's either screwing up or just half-assing it.

Yes that's fixable, but they gotta know why it's happening and he has to be willing to make the effort to fix it.

I keep bringing it up.  A lot of people on this board were calling him a bust his second season.   People on here are so quick to give up on a guy who is just getting used to the pro leagues.  Brown's absence last year was the big reason the defense struggled.  He impacts games.

Derrick Brown was one player I never called or even suggested was a bust . Dude was young and hadn't even hit his stride. It takes time to learn the position. The thing I appreciated about him is that he kept improving season after season. He got paid and keeps on going like the Energizer Bunny.

I think it's fairly clear he is not dedicated to being an NFL player. We don't have the time and luxury of being able to wait until his 5th year of the NFL for him to start to figure it out much like it took in college.

He is just another in a long line of Panthers WR flops. We should all be very familiar with the symptoms of that at this point.

Maybe not you...but there were a lot on this board calling him a bust in his second season.

Exactly. This last offseason Dan said that adding dudes that ‘loved playing football’ was the priority, and that’s just not who XL is. I don’t see the team patiently waiting for the bulb to come on.

Which was absurd as proven by his dominance. Its the draftniks that think the only good players are the rare rookie superstars

VERY few players completely change the complexion of the game. Brown is now at that level.

How do you scheme around a cheat code DT who collapses the center even when double teamed and bats passes on the regular? How do you block him and not draw a holding call? One on one and he rag dolls linemen. Most elite edge guys can be somewhat schemed around to a certain degree, but what the hell do you do against someone as physically dominating as Brown who lines up just a few feet from the football on every snap?

His presence alone has been good for at least 2 extra wins this season. He is the most physically dominating defensive player this team has seen since 2003 (sorry Star and Hardy), and he is STILL yet to reach his ceiling.

Now if Dan and Co can draft a DROY edge and shore up the LBs…

    • I think he got a raw deal there too but don't know enough about his attitude or demeanor to comment.  Definitely agree. And yeah, he fits what Canales does.  I know the team wouldn't bring him in with the idea of him competing for a starting job, but stuff happens.
    • He might get moved, but general belief right now says it's less likely. We'll see. Why was he benched? Stories written at the time mention an injury but also cute performance issues. Brissett outperformed him early on but I haven't followed Brissett's performance much since. He is what he is. And no. My disagreeing with you has nothing to do with emotions. I have no emotions in regard to Murray at all. My emotions regarding Bryce are mostly frustration and dread. Yes, I think he's better than Murray right now. Their respective strengths and weaknesses are different, but overall I think Bryce is the better quarterback at this moment. Who who is better two or three years ago or even last year doesn't really mean anything and I haven't bothered with those comparisons. Bottom Line: One guy is gonna be starting for the same team next season. The other is gonna be hoping to start somewhat else regardless of how he gets there. Is that not reasonable?
    • Its good we getting people healthy for a run and it came at an opportune time. But we generally come out flat with an underwhelming performance after a bye...Maybe Canales can break that stigma.
