I am not sure why any source would be particularly useful on free agency moves during the season but I will just say, I think you will see.

Russini is one of the best sources out there, but she's far from alone in that opinion.

General belief Is that the Cardinals will try to trade him, but his contract makes it a hard sell barring an agreement to renegotiate. The more likely scenario is he'll be released.

Speculation on which teams could see him as a starter doesn't produce many results.

It's based primarily off of cope. He plays just well enough jest often enough for them to cling to hope because swallowing that bitter pill of admitting that trade up was a huge blunder is gonna be a tough one. But not nearly as tough as the one we'd have to eventually choke down if we extended him to a franchise QB contract.

From the fan perspective I think it's a mix of not wanting to be wrong and the fact that Bryce seems like a legitimately decent guy that you wanna root for.

You cant really run down someone for still having hope in Bryce while being being the president of the Sam Howell fan club

But winning games is a bad metric? Because one has a much better career winning percentage.

So if you aren't as good statistically and you lose considerably more.....you are the better QB???

Again, please help me find any logic in this argument.

Did his career winning percentage keep him from getting benched this year?

You just keep going back to an emotional argument and one not based in anything football related.

So, which one is going to be the starter and which one isn't? Also, how confident in that prediction are you?

Emotional? Dude 😆

I'd point out there's a distinction to be made between hope in Bryce and hope for Bryce.

I have plenty of hope for him. It's not exactly faith based though.

Sure I can. I've been wrong before and I'll be wrong again. Am I sitting here begging for us to sign Sam Howell to a franchise QB contract or a one year $27M contract? Nope. I'm saying I want us to sign a more physically talented veteran QB to a reasonable short-term contract compete with Bryce next year and Howell fits that bill. Howell is my pick in large part because he's my favorite college QB of all-time. But if we signed someone like say Mariota instead, honestly that's fine too.

I don't think there will be much trouble with the contract considering 2026 is the end of his guaranteed money and his 2026 salary(currently) would make him somewhere near the Sam Darnold, Baker Mayfield area of AAV. So, bottom of the top 20 and just inside the backup, low caliber QB range of QB pay.

Like I said, don't be surprised if he gets moved.

What was the reason he went to the bench? Do you even remember?

Lol....100% emotional, dude. Listen we disagree from time to time and I always enjoy a debate but you aren't even attempting a compelling argument at all.

Bryce is demonstrably a worse NFL QB than Kyler Murray. And that shouldn't be some brag point for Kyler. That's being compared to a guy that is probably not a top 40 roster NFL QB.

Nobody will accuse me of being a UNC homer, but I'd love to sign Howell too.

I can imagine him having a Jake Delhomme style career path, i.e. spending a few years as an afterthought but proving to be better than expected if given a chance to play.

(someone might point out that he came into the league with higher expectations than Jake did, but that doesn't matter at this point)

I'd love for Howell to get another chance as a starter simply because I feel like he got a raw deal in Washington. He was playing for a pass happy OC who was really doing more auditioning for a HC role that he felt like he'd been getting passed over for than he was actually trying to run a functional offense. They passed the ball at a higher rate than any other offense in the league that year despite starting a second year player first year starter with an OL that couldn't pass protect at all and a lot of his league leading INTs came while trailing late throwing YOLO balls trying to comeback. Basically the perfect recipe for a bunch of turnovers.

My concern for Howell long term in the NFL is that if he's not a starter I don't think he has the mentality of a long term backup. He's not a guy that's just gonna smile and cheerlead and be happy to hold a clipboard.

Howell would be an instant upgrade at QB2 and a nice plan B if Bryce doesn't keep getting better.  He also should be pretty cheap and is still pretty young with a good ceiling.  I'd be happy with signing him this offseason.  I think he would fit nicely with DC from a personality viewpoint as well.

He might get moved, but general belief right now says it's less likely. We'll see.

Why was he benched? Stories written at the time mention an injury but also cute performance issues. Brissett outperformed him early on but I haven't followed Brissett's performance much since. He is what he is.

And no. My disagreeing with you has nothing to do with emotions. I have no emotions in regard to Murray at all. My emotions regarding Bryce are mostly frustration and dread.

Yes, I think he's better than Murray right now. Their respective strengths and weaknesses are different, but overall I think Bryce is the better quarterback at this moment. Who who is better two or three years ago or even last year doesn't really mean anything and I haven't bothered with those comparisons.

Bottom Line: One guy is gonna be starting for the same team next season. The other is gonna be hoping to start somewhat else regardless of how he gets there.

Is that not reasonable?

Definitely agree. And yeah, he fits what Canales does.

I know the team wouldn't bring him in with the idea of him competing for a starting job, but stuff happens.

I mean, again, based on what?

Kyler is tremendously more physically skilled, he sees the field far better, he is more efficient as a passer, his throwing mechanics are better, his decision making is better, etc, etc. He is a choker and he is brittle but those are basically the two minor advantages that Bryce has.

Aside from that, literally nothing.

I am asking WHY you think he is the better QB when almost every available measure that anyone could possibly use says quite the opposite?
