1) Shockey is not a "Panthers great." All due respect, he was here for one decent season.

2) This is probably the most accurate take on Bryce. You see flashes, but you also see a QB that just hasn't been able to develop any consistency.

Good at healing a bad ankle.  

Good at dump offs and under ten yard throws.

Hands off okay. 

Can gain some yards on the ground. 

Can make some nice lofted touch passes, on a good day.

Has a few good days a year   

Doesn’t get himself arrested for stupid poo, no bad headlines. 
 

Trying to be charitable. 

I don’t see what we are doing that does not play to his strengths. What strength am I missing that we should be building around, that we aren’t?

He can move in the pocket.  He is good at handoffs.   He can throw a good deep ball at times.  I am more critical of Bryce than most on here--my perspective was based on the fact that we are probably staying with him and it is time to move on from bitching about him all the time.  Having said all that, We are not playing to his strengths when we don't run Rico.  We are not playing to his strengths when we give the ball to Chuba up the gut on fourth and 1 with 9 guys in A gap. 

I am of the mindset that we draft a QB later and develop him.  There are some who had bad years and their stock is down.  LSU, Oklahoma, Miami, Penn State etc. all have QBs who, if the enter the draft, they could use a season of watching and holding a clip board.

the panthers are not playing to his strengths all they need to do to have byoung succeed at qb is have all pro players at every position besides qb.  that is the only way to really unleash the byoung potential otherwise everyone else is just holding him back....however if the panthers somehow were to have every other player be an all pro and byoung still has a bad game its not on him all the other players and coachs had an off game holding back is greatness the only real byoung has been the 3 or 4 games he broke 300 yards and played well the rest the team and coach failed him

so byoungs strength is when we run the rb i completly agree on that .  i do agree panthers will keep him and pick up the 5th but woild love to see them sign a possibly decent fa qb mac jones sam howell anf draft a qb someround so we have real competition.

It's probably time we talk about this. Yes he can be elusive scrambling at times. But as of lately Bryce has been moreso outright bailing on pockets and in doing so killing plays that might have worked had he stepped up into the pocket. And his reluctance or inability to do so has made it so defenses have begun keying in on that. It's all on the tape and you can be rest assured if we do get into the playoffs whatever team we face is going to follow the same gameplan the Saints and Seahawks followed.
