Trubisky as backup/qb1 until we can draft a franchise qb in 2027

Yep, a Trubisky tier QB is ideal.  It lets Dave come off Bryce and gives him the path to do so .

Trubisky or a similar tier QB wouldn’t start the season as the starter no matter what. They’d only start if Bryce plays god awful during the season.

Yeah, but it gives Canales the move off Bryce in season.  I’ve talked about him since midseason.  It’s what a good team would do and then you just have a legit competition.

But that’s why there is zero chance of them adding a QB like that until they are ready to move on.  It’s an instant issue for everyone involved if Bryce is default 1 with a better QB behind him.  Auto headache in house.  Media,  players, you name it.

Immediately, a big elephant in the room so to speak.  Which teams avoid

Realistic expectations imo would be:

1. Upgrade QB room with a legit backup.  I don’t think BY is here long term but I don’t see a scenario where the team makes a change right now and they  are not getting rid of Bryce in the offseason

2. Get an OC that has play calling duties and remove the role from DC

3. ILB

4. Pass rusher

5. OT need some insurance and transition plan for Moton and who knows about Ickey.

6. Vet receiver depth. XL experiment over.  Probably need to rethink the sandwich menu while we’re at it

7. TE/S//CB/Nickel

8. Replace Evero who will likely be gone

My question is what is a legit backup and then how does the staff do that and not create an auto issue to deal with.

because a Trubisky is a legit backup for a Josh Allen.  He is better than Bryce.   And that creates issues.

* and if you what to be generous, he is the same tier with better tools.  That’s issues in house to deal with

Trubisky is not better than Bryce. Trubisky’s prime was about the same as current Bryce.

I mean statistically he was better in just about every way you can slice it.  People have shared the head to head on that.  With a visual for ya.

But as I said, call it a push.  One has better physical tools than the other.  How is that not an immediate problem for the staff.   I mean, you know a lot of the fanbase would automatically start asking for Trubisky.  NFL players would see Trubiksky do things in camp and so would the media.  Thats problems coaches don’t want

so I don’t see how you can add a legit backup until you are ready and ok with moving on.  Bryce could beat him in a camp battle maybe.  But you have to essentially be cool with that to bring in a legit backup caliber QB.

QB: Overhaul the room. Jettison Bryce if possible but if he must remain then use a combination of a FA QB and draft QB to replace Dalton and provide realistic replacement options for Bryce when he continues to fail in 2026.

RB: Figure out Brooks and Dowdle's future. If Brooks is not going to be a factor, move on and obtain a roster capable backup RB. Dowdle, retain if he is reasonable to afford, if not, find another Dowdle.

TE: Find an upgrade that is also a genuine receiving threat. Sanders can be moved/cut, if necessary.

OL: Find a starting caliber C through the draft or FA. Extend Ikey and attempt to minimize the early cap hits. Attempt to retain(depending on price) Mays, Corbett and Nijman. Draft IOL and OT as backups/depth. Versatility is key for lower round picks(BC/Mays caliber).

Special Teams: Retain Sam Martin. Extend JJ Jansen if he wants to stay. Draft a legitimate WR/KR/PR guy again. It has been years since we have had an above average combo player like this.

EDGE: Retain Wonnum/Gipson depending on price. Cut DJ Jones. Bolster this position group through the draft. We currently only field rotational caliber players. This is not sustainable. Get actual pass rushing ability.

DL: Find a real NT. Bolster depth and upgrade across the board.

ILB: Find starting caliber ILB's through draft or free agency. There are no current players on the two deep that cannot be upgraded. This is a MASSIVE roster weakness.

S: Let Nick Scott walk or sign him as depth for a cheap, short term deal. Upgrades across the board are needed aside from Moehrig.

CB: Bolster depth and find a long term replacement for Jackson through the draft. Depth at this position is extremely weak.

Any qualifying QB in the NFL right now is better than Bryce

Do you watch NFL?

JJ McCarthy, Geno, Jets QB, Ward, Penix, Tua are some quarterbacks that did not have a better season.

    • Things like this happen everyday. We live in a social media driven society where loyalty is a foreign concept.
    • If you draft a guy who is healthy and has no concerns about that whatsoever and he goes out and tears his ACL in his first few games in the regular season on a physical play that's a freak accident. But when you trade up to draft an RB who is already rehabbing from a recent ACL tear and he spends the next several months continuing his rehab only to tear the same ACL again after less than a handful of regular season carries in a non contact circumstance that is no freak accident. That is a textbook example of why you do not do what we did. Particularly for what is now a plug and play position. And when you have the highest paid OL in the league over the next two years. None of that makes any logical sense. Legitimately it is and was some Scott Fitterer type foolishness. Now as for XL. The guy has not been committed to his craft. I think anyone with eyes on the situation can and would recognize that. However the warning signs were there. One season of legit production raw prospect that we knew would take time to develop etc. But Morgan and Bryce Young's own father were very high on him. I think in some capacity the reality of our limitation at QB is entering into the equation. Even TMac got a lot of flak over the course of his rookie season for not being able to haul in all of Bryce's passes. At the end of the day our fourth year QB also needs to do his part to maximize the talent we have available. As far as this year. Again. WR round 1 boils down to where are we going to get the touches for the rookie? That would require eating into not only our 8th overall picks touches but also our #2 WR whom oh yeah by the way was UNDRAFTED. I am happy to discuss WR prospects here. I was thrilled we invested what we did last year in TMac because it needed to be done and it made sense from all angles. But nowhere is it written in stone that you cannot draft a good or great WR outside of the first round. Except in the Panthers building apparently. That is not a good reflection on our scouts and front office let me tell ya. Because there's no way on this earth we are going to get back to relevancy and legitimate contender status if we can't pick some gems in the later rounds. Simple and plain.
    • This is pretty accurate our offense needs more juice. I love Cooker but he’s not enough XL ummm we’ll see this year hopefully the third year WR thing hits him and he plays better but still not enough. Honestly we need look at the Eagles they just adds Wicks and Hollywood Brown to that core. That shows the level of talent needed to compete at a championship level this coming season. And this below is the real problem KC doesn’t seem to add that much to our offense. We Makai Lemon or defense at 19
