No one is suggesting going all out to get a QB.  You can get a cheap QB that raises the ceiling of our O to be a bridge......while you wait to actually go address the QB.

Bryce is a bridge QB.  That's the tier QB he is.  A body a team would have as they wait to make a move for QB.  Folks just want a better bridge QB that makes the O more threatening until we go make a move for QB

If a "bridge" QB beats him out then so be it. Just can't see paying $10M+ per or giving up picks.

If they can bring in competition that doesn't prevent them from bringing in definite starters at other positions of need, then they should ABSOLUTELY do that. No questions asked. But there are way too many holes on this team that need to be addressed before going all out to get a QB. FTR, the same was true in 2023.

I am not in favor of "going all out." That is a bad plan. I have said repeatedly if we are going to keep Bryce for next season(I am not in favor of this either), that we should jettison Dalton and add both a FA/veteran QB capable of being better than Bryce(smaller bar than Bryce is) AND a DRAFTED rookie QB from Day 2/3.

Let's get some darts on the board at QB to upgrade while the rest of the roster builds. If we can build a good roster, eventually we can either attract a good veteran QB FA or make another Bryce-like move up because one of our few remaining weaknesses is just QB.

I don't think Malik Willis is going to demand huge started money but he will get paid decently. It may be he gets a short term contract with a bad team as their started under a new coach.

But I think QB is one of our bigger needs... However, we don't really have the ability right now to fix it without damaging the rest of the roster like we did in 2023. So yeah I agree... I just don't want a new contract for Bryce. But I'm actually fine with the extension as long as we really do upgrade the QB room overall.

QB is our biggest need but even bringing in Pat Mahomes is not going to turn this team into a consistent contender. We are still at least a couple of very good offseasons away from even thinking about consistency.

Make no mistake, this is still a bad roster. We have to keep plugging away at improving it and we need more 2025 offseasons than 2024 offseasons.

Also bringing up how clutch a qb is the last bastion for dead enders. You’re now on the same tier as The Golden Calf of Bristol and mark Sanchez defenders.

I’ll be god damned if I sit idly by while you besmirch the good name of Mark Sanchez. Women want him. Men want to be him. Elderly delivery drivers mace him and stab him.

I think someone is going to pay big for Willis.

But I agree, having a plan B is always smart.

It's possible but I think if you look at the potential options available it's unlikely. He is going to be a FA that some teams love and some teams are highly skeptical of.

Not trying to make a direct comparison(which is very unfair to Willis) but you didn't see a big market unfold for Kyle Allen after his "success" streak in Carolina.

It's possible you get a team or two willing to pay a Justin Fields level contract($20 mil AAV), but I think a Mac Jones level deal is more likely. Shorter and for less money overall.

So Jones is a no go ( we can debate on who is better between the two later ). Since he isn't the long term answer, who else is there you could bring in. I think Willis is gonna cost too much and won't want to come here unless he can be the starter

I am not here to say if he is or isn't an option. I would also say that we shouldn't be hyper focused on a long term QB. That contributed to how badly we fuged up the Bryce Young pick. We aren't in a position with this bad of a roster to be QB desperate.

Just focus on getting BETTER and potentially better options. Bryce is clearly a bust so continuing this is just pointless.

Build the roster, IMPROVE at QB and keep moving forward.

It never fails. Everytime I bring up Young in a post, the three amigos ( electro's horse, mrcompletely11 and CRA. ) always show up.

electro never says anything related to the post, mrcompletely just says "look how good electro sounds" and CRA never says anything new.

Responding to any of them is just a waste of time.

Do you not want us to read and respond to the threads you start?   What an odd take

The whole “pick up the fifth year but also bring in competition” is the weirdest take.

you only pick up the fifth if he’s the guy. You don’t bring in someone to “push” him if you think he’s it.

throwing a seventh or whatever at a project isn’t relevant either way.

Yep we are in a fuged spot regarding the 5th, personally I dont see one iota of benefit in doing so

Its not that bad of a roster anymore.  Its not great but its improved.  "Consistent contender" is more about process than current state.

Money and draft capital are big factors. We shouldn't be spending wildly in either case unless we are making a long term commitment and the target is worthy of such. I would be nervous to see this coaching staff and FO do that because I question their competence.

I will also say I don't think it even has to be about this idea of "competition" or a "camp competition." If you even go into 2026 with a new QB(or QB's) as depth, they need to be better than or potentially better than Bryce. That should be the case if for no other reason than when Bryce fails, we have some sort of viable options still available to try. What does Dalton accomplish?

So yall are out on Bryce, but in on Malik Willis? That's... interesting.

I would gladly take Willis.....details depending. It definitely isn't going to be on a long term, high value contract. That's crazy.

His ceiling is astronomically higher than Bryce and in his limited action in GB this year, he was significantly more effective than Bryce. Smaaaaaall sample size, though. And 0-2 in that sample size, as well. Not someone that anyone should be hyping as a long term answer.

I’m okay with picking up his 5th year and playing out his contract before making a decision. He hasn’t done enough to warrant the money that we will have to play him if we decide to extend him but he’s been good enough to play out the next two years to give our FO time to make a decision

    • Here’s a summary of the JJ and Luke podcast transcript. Opening / Bryce Young Fifth-Year Option     •    JJ: Breaking news — Panthers picked up Bryce Young’s fifth-year option at $25.9M, guaranteed, coming in 2027. Combined with his 2025 salary of ~$6M, that’s $31M over two years — called it a “no-brainer.”     •    Luke: Enthusiastic about the move. Highlighted Bryce’s improving TD/INT ratios (11/10 → 15/9 → 23/11) and the value of entering year three with Dave Canales. Noted $25M is a bargain relative to the $60M top of market. Luke’s Personal Update — Charlotte Christian Football     •    Luke: Working with Charlotte Christian school football program, which hired a new head coach. Coaches include Greg Olsen, Luke, and Greg’s dad Chris Olsen (a New Jersey State coaching Hall of Famer).     •    JJ: Jokingly quipped that Charlotte Christian’s coaching staff is “the world’s greatest” — a Fox analyst, a Hall of Famer, and the best Panthers RB ever — all coaching middle school football.     •    Luke: Praised Chris Olsen’s deep football knowledge spanning decades and his ability to connect with kids. Round 1, Pick 19 — Monroe Freeling, OT, Georgia     •    JJ: Panthers were on the clock and submitted their pick almost immediately — a sign of confidence and preparation. Freeling is 6’7”, 320 lbs, played in the SEC in a pro-style system.     •    Luke: Loved the pick. Emphasized you can never have too many quality offensive linemen. Noted Freeling’s size, athleticism, and arm length as key traits. Said the pick also reflects team’s philosophy of drafting great people, not just great players.     •    JJ: Noted reporter Darren Gantt compared Freeling favorably to Jordan Gross — bigger, heavier, and faster — as a potential franchise left tackle.     •    Luke: Pointed out that young players like Freeling still have physical development ahead of them, comparing the trajectory to Christian McCaffrey’s growth from age 20 onward. Round 2, Pick 49 — Lee Hunter, DT, Texas Tech     •    JJ: Panthers traded up from 51 to 49 (pick swap with Minnesota) to grab Hunter. Played audio from Panthers area scout Kaden McLuhan, who scouted Hunter.     •    Scout Kaden McLuhan (audio): Said Hunter’s size is immediately striking, and that everyone around him spoke glowingly about his character, energy, and love for the game.     •    Luke: Praised Hunter as a massive (6’3”, 320 lbs, ~34” arms) two-gap nose tackle who fits perfectly in the Evero defense. Compared his prospect profile to Akiem Hicks. Said having Derek Brown, Bobby Brown, Derrick Brown, Terson Wharton, and now Hunter creates varied body types that stress offensive linemen.     •    JJ: Noted Hunter ranked third among all prospects in run-stuff rate and sixth in interior pass-rush win rate — addressing a perception that he couldn’t rush the passer. Rounds 3–7 Highlights     •    Luke: Highlighted WR Brazle (3rd round, 6’4”, 437 speed, 1,000+ yards at Tennessee) as the vertical threat the offense needed. Also praised OL Sam Heck (5th round) as a technically sound player whose “short arms” caused him to fall but who has proven himself.     •    Luke: Mentioned CB Will Lee (6’1”, 33” arms) fits the Panthers’ DB prototype — big, long corners.     •    Luke: Praised S/LB hybrid Zaki Wheatley (5th round, 6’3”) as a big nickel similar to Trayvon Merek.     •    Luke: Excited about the linebacker competition between Devin Lloyd, Trevvin Wallace, and Claudin Cherless.     •    JJ: Noted Panthers had the #1 “steal/overreach” rating in the entire draft — drafting players lower than consensus big boards projected. Around the League     •    Luke: Admitted being “a little jealous” that the Miami Dolphins drafted LB Jacob Rodriguez (Luke’s favorite LB in the draft). Has personal connections to Miami’s coaching staff (Jeff Hafley, DC Shawn Dugen — a childhood teammate).     •    Luke: Also noted Miami’s selection of OT/G Kaden Proctor out of Alabama, who will likely move to guard. League Trends — Bigger Tight Ends / 12 & 13 Personnel     •    JJ: Observed the NFL saw its highest run rate in ~11 years (~52%) and a notable pivot toward big blocking tight ends in this draft.     •    Luke: Explained the cyclical nature of NFL offense/defense evolution — as defenses get smaller to match spread offenses, teams counter with bigger personnel (12/13 formations), which then forces defenses to get bigger at the nickel/“big nickel” spot. Called it an ongoing arms race.
