Wild Card QB Performance Rankings

For reference here's Bryce's passer rating for the season and the peers amongst him in comparison. Not great company.

It certainly lines up with what I've seen with my own two eyes.

Passer rating is genuinely the worst way to measure performance. It weighs completion % insanely heavy.

Cam’s career passer rating is 85. What does that tell you about him as a passer?

Absolutely nothing. It’s a garbage stat.

The thing is, traditional passer rating only accounts for pass accuracy, interceptions and touchdowns. It doesn't take into account, for example, that CJ Stroud had 5 fumbles. Or that Matt Stafford went through a large stretch of game where he had 12 incompletions and interception and a near 2nd dropped interception before he started moving the ball when we went semi-prevent. It also doesn't account for runs and running touchdowns.

In addition, things like time-to-throw are difficult to measure. A QB running for his life is gonna higher TTT stat because he's maybe rolling out the pocket, or escaping a pressure. If you watched Herbert on Sunday, a lot of people would say his line was a turnstile, but he had the highest time to throw.

QBR does take a lot of that into account, so the Total QBR vs the Passer Rating is never gonna match up exactly.

This forum is largely anti-Bryce though, so if his passer rating for 101.5 because he threw 3 TDs and had 1 int, but had 5 fumbles, people would point at the low QBR and say... SEE! I told you, passer rating doesn't tell the story!!

Are we including their contracts? Haha. If so I'd add Lawrence and maaaaaybe Herbert to the list I wouldn't trade for (I'd probably still take Herbert lol).

I was happy with Bryce's performance and all but the op seems to think we should read more into it than I think we need to.

(I am totally against signing Bryce to a long term contract right now)

I just think he’s better than he’s given credit for on here. Folks here think he is not an NFL quarterback. He showed he can play with the big boys when it matters.

He has been one of the worst starters in the nfl for the past 3 years, he is not better than he is given credit for.  You are seeing what you want to see and making up things to justify it

When evaluating a QB the eye test goes hand in hand with the statistics.

Anyone with a functioning brain knew Cam Newton in his prime was a cheat code more often than not even if his accuracy was sometimes maddening.

Bryce Young has now played 3 complete seasons of football and he moves the ball through the air on average at a very low rate. Amongst the lowest at his position in league history. That isn't going to just suddenly change. It's who he is.

The first 6 games of the season had TMac with 0 NFL experience and XL with his 54% catch rate as the number 1 and 2 receivers. They combined for 46/82 catches (56.1%), 539 yards (11.72 yds /rec ) and Young had 11 TDs and 8 TOs.

The last 6 games had a more experienced TMac and Coker as the number 1 and 2 receivers and they combined for 49/69 catches (71 %), 732 yards (14.94 yds/rec) and Young had 11 TD’s and only 3 TO’s.

Some people around here believe a QBs’ performance works in a vacuum. It doesn’t.

No doubt a lot of Young’s inconsistencies are his own fault but he has shown improvement since Coker returned and started getting more playing time. That with the fact TMac will have an entire year of experience means there should be a lot more games like Saturdays’ next year.

interesting enough his qbr was basically the same the first 8 games he played and the last 8 games.  i believe like 22nd in the total nfl.

His shtick, the I hate Bryce shtick. We have a small number of fans in the stands screaming how bad our qb sucks when he misses a pass, while the rest of us are having a great time supporting our team in the playoffs.

You don’t go scream about how poo you think your quarterback is in a stadium full of fans cheering for the team and him. It’s fuging weird.

    • With the contract money an OT first rounder makes you can ALWAYS get a new girlfriend.  And probably an upgrade at that.  You only got 2 parents.
    • Brother. You are wholly confusing comparing situations and applying actual standards like most other franchises do like simply getting into a playoff series and winning at least 1 or 2 series games with praising. Nobody is praising the Hawks. Nobody is praising the Magic. Nobody here likes those teams. But reality is reality. The Hawks like other franchises have traded players fired coaches etc but they can still win a couple playoff games. How is that not the bare floor for you or anyone else? What are we doing here if it isn't? We've seen eye to eye on many things over the years. But you are in the camp on the Hornets where you are emotionally attached to LaMelo where you feel the need to carry his water like he's got that juice. That's cool that you feel that way. It's your prerogative. But I differ from that viewpoint entirely. If he had that juice we would not have gotten wiped off the court in 2 play in games with 2 different coaching staffs and rosters. if people don't like hearing that well I'm sorry but how the hell is this team ever going to get better and ultimately go anywhere in the postseason if we just blindly pat them on the back for getting their asses whooped before they actually even get into the real playoffs? There seem to be some Bryce Young level standards being applied here. That's wild to me. But to each his own.
    • Proctor/Freeling were always the belles of the ball where we were picking. What those two *could* become at OT was far greater than what others could be at their respective positions and I’m glad our FO could see that.
