DJ Moore. The quitting WR

DJ pulling a Moose and coming back from Chicago would be interesting. Can't imagine it happens, especially at his current cap number. Don't think he'd command much in a trade, but that cap number is rough for a #2-3 and our current roster outlook.

Depending on how badly the Bears want to trade him, they're likely to eat a good portion of the cap to see him on another team.

Folks complained quite frequently when DJ Moore was here that he was not a #1 and never would be. That was when he was still on a rookie contract and then briefly on the new deal we signed him to which now looks like an absolute steal compared to his current contract. If he were here now making what he's making we would never hear the end of it. Gotta turn the page.

I'd take him back if the Bears want to eat some of that salary.

In a perfect world I agree.

But a Moose level reunion is not realistic in this era of the league with how crazy contracts are now. By comparison his contract with the Bears before he came back to us worth $30 million with only $12 million guaranteed. Compare that to DJ Moore at $110 million with $82.6 million guaranteed and have yourself a nice chuckle.

Yeah the rules are not kind to the trading away team. poo load comes due immediately. All pro rated bonus money for one thing.

Well, it's an accounting rule that everyone understands. Bonus money can be pro-rated so that it isn't a one year cap nuking event. Also provides the ability to get out in future years with way more miminal cap implications that trying to unwind from a ton of guaranteed money spread out in the same manner.

When we were talking about trading Bryce last year (dammit) I looked it up, and of course don’t remember for sure.
I just looked it up again.
I found that any signing bonus paid that was pro rated over the length of the contract comes due immediately.  All guaranteed money comes due also.

The dead cap can be split across two years, as well.

That is what I thought, but the place I looked did not say that. I’ll worry about it when we trade somebody I guess.

It's about the June 1st deadline, basically.

DJ ran a really and I do mean really god awful route.

Ball wasn’t meant for him. He’s mean to draw the safety for Burden to uncover late, or you check down to Kmet. It’s a true two read play and Caleb clearly was just throwing to what he saw rather than understanding the context of the play design.
