D-Mo on FA & some of my general thoughts

After listening to Morgan's presser twice, I came away with some key beliefs.

First of all, I don't think he's a bullshitter. What you see is what you get. When he says something, he means it.

The Teppers really have evolved as owners. Morgan has mentioned how they're easy to work with--a pleasure to work with a few times now. There seems to be a good relationship between all of them (and include Dave Canales on that). We'll see if it lasts.

Yes, no one wanted to come to Carolina with the previous management, but that seems to have changed. The team signed arguably the top Edge, LB and OT on the market, two of them on pretty good deals and one on what I'll say is "not a bad one." And, credit Sunshine Dave "Flowers and Cotton Candy" Canales for helping to change the culture. Morgan mentioned getting guys--and I'm paraphrasing--that are not only great football players but great people. Don't look for us to be acquiring any James Pearce types anytime soon, just saying. We'll see if that holds true in the future.

Dan Morgan really has set up the Panthers to take the BPA/BAP. He mentioned it at least a couple of times, and he doesn't seem pressured to pinpoint a particular position. He just wants quality players that will help the team. This is how it's going to be (to your joy or dismay, probably for as long as he's here), and personally I love it.

Many of us know how Morgan was when he played: aggressive! That's what he's going to be when making acquisitions. He explicitly said it, and emphasized it. All avenues are open (think FA, waivers...the draft)! Personally, as long as it's controlled aggression and not reckless aggression, I love it.

On KP: "Mobility is big in this league."  He basically says if another QB is the BPA while drafting--we're going by our board, people--we're going to add them.

Sorry man you lost me at "Teppers have evolved as owners". Limped into playoffs at 8-9 not even above .500

Tepper is trash as an owner bro and that's not even a discussion at this point. 37-83 w/l ratio. Nuff said....

Morgan tho, he's cooking and it ain't cuz of Teppers leadership

You're equating wins with evolving, but It's a little more complex than that. This will be the new managment's third season. It will also be the third season where the Teppers have taken a step back. If you think that the only way to measure improvements due to seeming changes for the better is wins and losses after only two years--one being a playoff berth, "limping" in there or not, then perhaps you're being more emotional.

By most analysts' measure, Dan Morgan has the Panthers moving in the right direction. He can only get us to where we need to be with the blessing and cooperation from the owners. He has said several times now, that they are easy to work with. Rhule, Reich and Fitterer did not say that. In fact, you could literally see the pressure put upon them by their countenance.

Bottom line: it has been reported that they have changed and everything that we've seen (and not seen) is indicative of that belief. We were a playoff team, and we had a good showing. With the moves that have been made this offseason, and last offseason to be honest, NFL types are expecting the Panthers to compete for the division the upcoming season, and that's even before the draft. This is all with a QB that is still a question mark.

Rome wasn't built in a day. David Tepper has seemed to internalize that, and now many fans need to appreciate the same. It could be argued that we didn't have any business winning the games we did in '24 or '25, much less make the playoffs this past season. A positive transition appears to be afoot. We are close to becoming a perennial contender, and that's thanks to a developing culture change that is being allowed to happen. This was not the case when the Teppers, particularly David, were fumbling around trying to figure out how to run an NFL franchise.

This fan base and being cool with mediocrity is infuriating. Making excuses for billionaires who had no business imploding a franchise and making us the Browns of the South.

Good on you man being a glass half full kind of person, I am not. I have zero faith in Tepper "evolving" and quoting Morgan in saying they been easy to work with is not any evidence of that actually happening.

I'm sure if I go back and watch Fitt, Rhule and Reich pressers they said the same b.s. towing the line jargon to appease their boss. Stuff like, O they've been great, such great collaboration or some crap.

Give me wins that is the ONLY analysis I need to judge are clown of an owner.....

Great insight 👍

I'll always be happy when Panthers are winning but to give credit to an owner who is easily bottom barrel is not in reality imo.

Keep being cool with mediocrity and proofing my point

Certainly we had a very solid free agency. There are things to like about Morgan. There are also things to be weary of. Beyond that I mean this isn't really that different from past iterations of the Panthers. In that I mean pushing ourselves up against the limits of the salary cap to maximize a team that could ultimately end up just being mid. And at the end of the day the only area of success that will matter in making this franchise a legitimate Super Bowl contender for now and the next few years will be if Dan Morgan can navigate multiple successful drafts. And not just in the early rounds either. He needs to find high end talent in the mid to late rounds too. That is what separates the pretenders from the contenders in the NFL. Until that comes to fruition nothing is going to truly change for the better regarding the trajectory of this franchise.

Some random cherry picking here too.

I think I want to say Dan is going to be really good.  Continue to be.
This thing with Phillips is his injury risk. They took a pretty big chance.  But the talent is there.

His thinking is good. He learns pretty quickly, we lost out last year with our big FA swing, he did not lose out this year.

He seems to be handling Tepper very well, that in itself is a feat.

All the people were are signing are young still. Big windows for them compared to 29 and 30 year olds.
He will have on odd older one here and there but I bet you it will be a small deal, or a one year deal.
To me that is a new way of doing business. And is is a good policy.
It looks like he is building a good team, methodically.

After this FA period, this could be be a very interesting draft.
