I said if he was their BPA, then he was the right pick. But I don't agree that he was BPA or would have the greatest impact this season. Not agreeing is not the same as not believing.

He wasn't BPA. He won't have the greatest impact this season. Still could have been the right pick.

As far as instant impact, you're likely 100 percent correct, but I disagree with you about BPA because it's at least arguable that Freeling was the BPA. You're going to be hard pressed to find a whole lot of analysts that thought Thieneman was the BPA over Freeling, all you have to do is look at big boards. Now, Lemon? That's more questionable, but...as you know, many here didn't want us to use the pick on a receiver. Their minds and thoughts were squarely inside the box. Analysts were susceptible to that as well. All that being said, it still won't surprise me if Freeling turns out the better player at his position than Lemon will as a receiver. That won't surprise me at all, and it may not take as long as some people think. But yeah, Lemon will likely make the more immediate impact, and it won't be close.

Maybe a fantasy but not an impossibility. Someone needs a OT mid season and we have a cheap Rasheed Walker and inside scoop on Christensen being healthy enough to be a backup by then.

Probably a stretch but not crazy. OT is never something you can have too much of. Serviceable OT are like gold or old Tacomas

Speaking of Christensen, does anyone know his status heading into training camp?

Lmao the only inferior team they were ever knocked out by was the Rags. Panthers and Lightning won cups, when we lost to Boston they were the top team in the east. We’d kill for the Panthers to make the playoffs and win at least one game every year for 7 straight years. Canes are an incredible franchise right now

I just trolling LOL. I don't really follow hockey. I take a little interest when the playoffs start. And yes by far the most successful Pro Sport franchise in the Carolinas.

Freeling had higher grades than Thieneman most everywhere.  There were a few that didnt. But we're talking OT vs safety and the team doesn't use lists made by media outlets. They make their own.

Exactly.

@Navy_football

Where do you get he won't start? Did you see his INTERVIEW? He prefers LT but give him two weeks and he can handle RT.  There is nothing written that Walker is guaranteed to start LT. And God knows someone goes down with an injury.

You're correct it's not glamorous but by most people that grade these people. He was BPA.

Haven't seen the interview. I just don't have a lot of faith in him beating out Walker or Moton as a rookie. He'll play but I'm not sure he'll start. If Makai Lemon wasn't available I wouldn't have as much of an issue with the pick. Makai would likely be a 700+ yards receiver as a rookie here, and be the explosive playmaker we've needed since trading DJ Moore. He would start day 1. No contingencies. And what if TMac or Coker go down for any extended period of time? We'd be counting on Metchie to step up big time. This receiving group is not as good as some give it credit to be. There's a real lack of a speed and elusive factor.

I'm sorry but you don't use a first round pick on a WR3. Talk about a player not playing that much.  We also have Treymayne and Horn Jr. Who will have a year under their belt.

It was the right pick. Not a glamorous pick but the right one. We'll just have to agree on NAVY FOOTBALL.

Lemon and possibly Thieneman were higher rated and at positions of need also.

More highly rated by who?  The Media or some analyst?

Morgan said that they thought the guy we picked was our most highest rated player left on the board.  While it remains to be seen if they were right, the team's ratings are the only ones that matter when the pick is made.

    • Really? You don't see why a team can't draft a QB in the 1st round while then starting their former #1 overall pick over them while on the last year of their deal? It puts the team in a TERRIBLE place no matter how the season goes.  If Bryce sucks, you have to answer questions as to why he was still on the team to begin with, let alone starting over the rookie.  If he's good, then you run into the situation the Vikings were in last offseason with sticking with the rookie contract or the the guy who just performed instead of said young QB. It's one thing when teams keep a vet around as a bridge QB, it's something entirely different when that QB is still only in their mid 20's and was taken #1 overall by that team.   That just doesn't happen and not sure it ever has in NFL history before.
    • What is the alternative? - BY, will not play for less then his perceived contract (just like Cam Newton did). So you pay him top of market as befitting a 1st round, Heisman winning, playing birthing QB would get. Or you cut him. - Then we are forced to either sign a stop gap QB / previously failed QB and try to fix him or you spend a 1st round pick and draft a guy, basically resetting the team.  The reality is that we all want a top 5 QB. The problem is there are only 5 of those guys in the world and drafting, even #1 overall doesn't guarantee that.  The other problem is the NFL market. Young QB get paid. Even an average, young QB gets top of market deals. I know a lot of people here think we could sign him to an 'average QB contract' but thats not reality. Didnt happen with Cam wont happen with BY.  So we could let this season flush out and he is again a middling QB. But then we cut and restart or accept it is what it is (including compensation) and build a team around what we have.  My money is on the latter.
