A friend of mine, Dr. Brown, asked me to help him with something.  He's evidently made a couple modifications to an old sports car and wants me to test drive it for him.

He asked me an odd question that I wanted to get your thoughts on.  He said, "You know Carolina Panther history pretty well, right?"  Then he went into this long gobbledygook speech; something about light speed and gigawatts and butterfly effects. I dunno.  He lost me there.  That's when he asked the odd question.  He said, "If you could change any one instant in Carolina Panther history, ... just ONE, ... what would it be?"  He told me to think about it and I'm supposed to give him an answer tomorrow.

Not sure why he wants to know that just so I can test drive his car.  Anyways, I came up with an answer but, before I tell you mine, I thought I'd ask what your answer would be.

I think mine was easy: go back and have the guy from Charleston buy the team instead of Tepper. Navarro? Took about ten seconds of pondering to get to that answer.

Some guys we passed up in the draft, some stuff with the Super Bowls, some injuries, probably many other things were pivotal but that to me is where things went to hell in a hand basket.

I have thought about that a lot over the years because I am a big JR fan.
There was no clear succession and he was nearing the end health and age wise.

Taking his team probably accelerated his decline. RIP JR.

PS I guess I would have rather had him pick the buyer though, over globalist Goodell.

On the field? Since I guess it qualifies as multiple instances it might not count, but have the damn refs throw some flags on illegal hits to Cam's head in SB50. If that doesn't count, 1A. Cotchery caught it 1B. Kasey keeps that kickoff inbounds.

Off the field? 1A. Team is sold to anyone but Tepper 1B. We have the patience not to mortgage the franchise on that Bryce trade. Stroud would've been the better pick but he's not worth it either.

You don’t even need 1b because Tepper is the only one foolish enough to wheel that deal.

Player wise? Jake’s elbow. JR and Pep getting sideways, no Carruth, Cam’s shoulder, Luke’s concussions, it would be a long list of stuff. You can take it down to certain plays in games. Fox chasing 2 point conversions in the SB would be on my list. RMJr slipping at the end of that same game was not helpful.

Every future first round pick we ever traded.

Blows my mind how you could watch that Ohio State Georgia game and not take CJ. He's regressed but I think it's in part to them giving him the Cam and Burrow treatment of gutting their O-line

Didn’t even watch that game and all I needed was to look at CJ’s size, look at him throw with his footwork all refined.. toes pointed where he was throwing, great form, watch the flight of the ball..

And then do the same test with Bryce. Lol who in their right mind chooses Bryce?

Probably the best college football game i've ever watched, Stroud did everything people said he couldn't do, while Bryce was already out of the playoffs and regressing without having elite the elite talent he had the year before

Yeah, that OL is trash and it's definitely not helping.

The NFL is a fickle beast. There have been some very talented players who could not sustain their previous success even with the necessary physical traits. He would just end up one more in a long line.

But you are correct. When you are targeting a specific position if you are operating with the necessary number of functioning brain cells you should always covet and prioritize the players who showed up the most against the best most pro ready competition. Not fawn over the prospects who spent the bulk of their career shellacking smaller college programs who basically operate out of a large closet space.
