D-Will a UFA

Zod

DWill has already said he wants to be back here Zod.

What is he supposed to say? "Get me the hell out of here" or perhaps "I will go to the highest bidder"?

99% of the free agents who have left their teams in the NFL at some point say they want to stay put.

Been saying this for some time. It's a shame we couldn't have sent him to Green Bay when they were inquiring about backs.

This franchise makes me scratch my head sometimes. A 3rd round pick is better than nothing. Even a 4th rounder or a 5th!

SO if we resign him again does that mean all this whining and bitching was totally wasted?? Shouldn't we wait to see what happens before we talk about what we should have done.

You see the sun rise every day and you just sort of start to assume it will be there again.

Instead like you I should bitch and complain all night about how it isn't going to rise until I see it appear over the horizon.

No, i am pointing out it is going to rise.

When the Panthers plan on keeping a player around, they do not let him get to an unrestricted free agency. They extend contracts to avoid bidding wars.

Who is the last big name player we resigned once they hit free agency?

Now you are totally changing the point when you have nowhere to go. But lets play along.

How often have we had an expired CBA and a potential lockout since we were a franchise. When has a similar situation ever happened. The answer it has hasn't.

Trading D last season made no sense given Goodson was totally unproven and Stewart was coming off another surgery.

Should we have signed him long term last year?? That is a better question and you can blame JR for being cheap on that one.

Getting a fourth for Williams makes sense only if we lose him. Otherwise we doing what we should. I assume that Williams have been talking with Hurney and the intent is to resign him. Until that proves incorrect there is no reason to assume it will be different.

I see no problem in talking about probable scenario's involving our Panthers players. It's not only a potential scenario, it's a probable one.

As this point we don't even know what the CBA will include or is there will be football so it can't exactly be probable.

Yes, but this year is different. They, nor most other teams, are extending contracts.

    • To kick this up, The Athletic has a really comprehensive piece out where pretty much all QB questions are addressed. It is worth seeing.  https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/7083539/2026/03/04/starting-quarterback-projections-free-agency-draft/?source=user_shared_article I’m putting something specific here but it should have a thread or something. It is an extensive exercise.  This is a dense write up with a lot of column inches used, about the Jets and Murray and Reich, all this stuff.. then it goes to backup QB and there is Dalton.  I am pasting that part: As for Dalton, Reich is installing the offense he was trying to run in Carolina in 2023 before he got fired, and Dalton was with the Panthers then; he’s an ideal option as a veteran backup to replace Taylor. Reich said this about Dalton in 2023: “The way he's throwing the football, the way he works through progressions, the way he handles the operation. … Since day one (when) he walked in the door, I'm like, 'This guy is starter-worthy.' You guys know I've said that all along. He's, in my opinion, one of the best 32 quarterbacks in the world.” ——— That’s true love lol. I never heard any of this. Pretty crazy I think, considering how the year went.   Anyway the dream is not dead. .
    • The Seahawks traded for wide receiver/returner Rashid Shaheed at the trade deadline. He proved to be a key acquisition. Shaheed returned a punt and a kickoff for touchdowns in the regular season and had a 95-yard kickoff return in the postseason. Shaheed, though, is scheduled for free agency. So, the 12 games he played, including the postseason, might be the extent of his time in Seattle. Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that Shaheed and the Seahawks are not close to an extension, and the expectation is that the two-time Pro Bowler will hit free agency. Shaheed has 153 receptions for 2,243 yards and 12 touchdowns in his four-year career to go along with three punt return touchdowns and a kickoff return touchdown. He ranks 13th on PFT’s top-100 free agents. https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/report-rashid-shaheed-appears-headed-to-free-agency
