Jenson's OTB: Panthers Source on Edwards, Clausen

I think Moore is irrelevant as far as future plans go.

I appreciate you sharing your thoughts on the subject but I would disagree and I believe there is more indication that he will be here than not.

But again, I respect your opinion and encourage you to keep sharing your thoughts with us.

What indication? Did I miss something? Or are you basing that on an opinion that Pike is gone?

With all the teams out there that need a QB, and with the Panthers situation regarding contracts, I really think Moore will say all the right things and end up in someone else's camp anyway.

Gotta wonder if that's Danny Morrison.

Also liked what Jensen said about Lewis trying to talk Mike Brown into trading Carson Palmer. They seem to think that the number one plus a fourth rounder will net Palmer.

I'd take that.

A swap of firsts and the 4th for Palmer yes. Just giving up #1 overall....fug no.

A couple of different thoughts.

It seems that different high ranking officials are saying different things. Didn't it get reported today or yesterday that the reason we were pursuing a QB in free agency or the draft was because they weren't happy with Clausen especially his difficulty picking up the playbook. And that was supposed to be the same system he had in college. Given this system is very different and will take time to learn, how is he going to do any better picking up this system??

Plus if you have the chance to pickup a better QB in this draft than you have already why wouldn't you do it? Unless both Gabbert and Newton went in the top 3, if the trade rumor was true, you could get Palmer perhaps (assuming he wants to come here) and still pick up one or the other. Unless you were waiting for next year but I can't believe that we would be in the top 5 of the draft if we get Palmer.

And if we trade for Palmer, Clausen will get little work so we won't know if he the future at the end of 2011 either. It will be another Chris Weinke situation where the guy hangs on for 4 or 5 years until we realize he sucks and let him go. Then when Palmer retires we have no one as a franchise guy.

Can we even trade for players if there is no CBA in place? I thought the trade dealine for 2010 would be over and without a CBA we couldn't trade for any players this year until after the agreement is done. So if the draft occurs without a CBA could we even make that deal??

That's good to hear about Jimmy. I know I talk about how much he sucked last year and how much Moore was better than he was but I respect that the guy is giving it his all.

That was disturbing to read about Armanti. I would have thought Fox would have been more professional than that. Without a doubt he is one of the most athletic players on the team. You see this is why Fox lost because he couldn't utilize the talent he had, or he didn't want to.

I'm not pissing on Jimmy or getting on the "draft QB or bust" train, but it makes you wonder? If they rate a one year NFL QB behind two spread option prospects that are considered raw, how is that a "we aren't drafting a QB" argument? Just something to think about. In my eyes JC could be real good solid QB still though.

probably the FA tender he got. also, the fact that he has been mentioned by name a few times as a QB possibility by Panthers brass.

This is a good point. Wouldn't this need to be done before Thrusday. Or I guess if could happen if the new CBA were in place before the draft but what are the realistic chances of that happening.

It looks like if we draft a QB Moore may be the FA vet everyone was wondering about to compete.

Of course the tender may be a signal that we aren't going in that direction in this draft.

Gantt says Moore's offer is a ten percent pay raise over his prior one.

No word on the compensation.

Wouldn't that mean a first and third since that was the tender he was give last year. If he is getting a 10% raise it would have to be the same or the tender would be lower.

So his offer would be $3.3 million for next season?

2 thoughts:

1. I have said all along that Matt would be back and fighting to earn his starting job back.

2. How are so many people clinging to the hope of Clausen being the man here? It seems like the further we get from this past season the more people forget how bad he really is. He will be 3rd string at best. The Panthers should actually trade him because I am sure there are other teams who can put some value on him. We should get something for him while we can. He is going to be worthless by the time his contract ends.

    • lol, that second part is quite literally one of the dumbest things ever. Having or not having guaranteed contracts has absolutely nothing to do with how much these billionaires have to pay.  Because there is a hard cap and a minimum cap spend requirement, and teams either use their cap or roll it over to use it all the next year, so the owners have to pay the same amount of money in the end no matter what. Having fully guaranteed contracts in the NFL would only hurt salary cap management, and thus would end up screwing over the team and its fan base when teams kiss on signings as they take up cap room that is needed to improve the roster. Look at the Browns with Watson, they gave him the fully guaranteed deal and all it’s doing is sucking up massive cap space now.  If they hadn’t done that, the owner would still be paying the same amount of money each year as that cap space would still be used elsewhere. If you want to argue for fully guaranteed contracts because the players deserve it, that’s an entirely different argument and a fair one to discuss.  But anyone against fully guaranteed deals isn’t doing it to argue for the billionaire owners.

    • Ryabkin could be the steal of the draft, he was a Top 10 pick heading into last season and had a rough year.  Lots of GMs passed on him because of that and his workouts. Pick has really high upside and Svech should be able to translate Rod tearing his arse a new one for making dumb plays since Svech has had several years of it.  🤣😂
